SH-20 construction continues: Traffic to switch to new pavement mid April

Mar. 25—Construction continues on State Highway 20 — also known as Patti Page Boulevard — and is about 53 percent complete.

"The project has been moving along very smoothly," Oklahoma Department of Transportation Public Information Officer T.J. Gerlach said. "The contractor is currently finishing up work on the westbound lanes, including adjacent driveways, side streets and guardrails."

The $4.6 million project was awarded to C3 Construction in March of 2021 and began after the July 4 weekend. The project was halted in April due to safety concerns after construction crews hit a gas line three times and found gas lines in two other areas. Construction started again around the end of November.

Gerlach said they anticipate switching traffic to the new pavement by mid April.

"We don't anticipate to have similar delays on the eastbound side as we did on the westbound, so the next phase should be completed much more quickly," he said.

Gerlach said they expect the project to be completed early this summer, weather permitting.

Gerlach said beside the utility conflicts early in the project, there have been no major setbacks or materials shortages.

"We truly appreciate the patience of everyone in the community as we navigate this difficult project," he said. "Also, we want to remind folks to continue to use extra caution and be aware of changes throughout the work zone, especially as we get closer to switching traffic over."
