Setters to spikers: 20 South Shore high school boys volleyball players starring
High school boys volleyball has exploded on the South Shore in recent years.
Milton, Hingham and Scituate are all embarking on their first varsity seasons this spring. Across the state, there are 18 more teams this season.
As of Tuesday's power ratings, eight South Shore teams were on pace to qualify for the state tournament. The state tournament pairings will be announced Tuesday, May 28.

Boys Volleyball
Division 1
Mason Cleary, BC High
The senior captain is "one of the top players in the state," according to coach James Chen. The outside hitter leads the Eagles in kills (227), aces (33) and digs (214).
Cameron Johnston, North Quincy
The senior captain has been a staple for the Raiders over the last four years. He's tallied 236 kills this spring.
Anthony Chui, North Quincy
Chui is a captain with four years of varsity experience. The middle hitter has 85 kills this season and gives North Quincy added confidence on the court.
Raymond Lin, North Quincy
Coach Megan Johnston calls Lin "the foundation of the team." The libero leads the way defensively and has strong court vision.
Luke Thompson, Weymouth
The senior middle blocker leads the Wildcats in kills and blocks.

Andrew Benoit, Weymouth
The sophomore libero leads the team in digs and serve-receive passing percentage.
Kobe Lip, Weymouth
The freshman is the team's best all-around player, according to coach Bill McEachern. He leads the team in serving percentage and aces.
Jason Bryant, Brockton
The senior leads the Boxers in kills with 173.
Matthew Cummings, Hingham
The junior captain plays a big role in Hingham's serve receive and offense. He plays outside and middle hitter.
Sam Blake, Hingham
The libero controls the game for the Harbormen.
Nole Ruccio, Hingham
The junior setter is the "most essential player to our team's success in the first year of operation," according to coach Shawn Nugent.
Division 2
David Nguyen, Milton
The captain has not missed a match this season and anchors the defense. He leads the Wildcats in service receptions and is second in digs.
Eliot Repko, Milton
Coach Chris Chin calls him the "floor captain." Repko leads the team in assists and kill percentage during his first year as a setter.
Jack McAnulla, Milton
The captain is among the team leaders is blocks (third), kills (third), aces (second) and serve percentage (second).
Kyle Mirabile, Randolph
The outside/middle hitter is a two-year starter. He's approaching 100 kills on the season.
Gavin Vu, Randolph
The captain is a third-year player at setter/outside hitter.
Lucas Duarte, Randolph
The fourth-year player lines up at libero for the Blue Devils.
Phil Laniel, Scituate
The junior is an all-around player at outside hitter for the Sailors. The captain is a leader for the first-year varsity program.
Jackson Davenport, Scituate
The captain is a strong outside hitter and captain. He's a good leader who has improved his passing skills this spring.
Caleb Foley, Scituate
The sophomore setter helped get Scituate's program off the ground. He was a captain on last year's team when it played at the club level, and he's been a captain this spring during the Sailors' first varsity season.
