Make your selection for Athlete of the Week for period ending Oct. 28

The final Athlete of the Week voting for the fall high school season is here, with candidates nominated based on their achievements from the period of Oct. 23 to 28.

Nominees are based on results reported to bgmsports@gannett.com or events covered by sports reporters from the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.

A winner will be announced Friday. Voting is open until the end of day Wednesday.

This week's nominees:

  • Faith Brenchley, Spencer-Van Etten volleyball: She had 13 service points, 21 digs, 22 assists and three kills as Spencer-Van Etten beat Candor in five sets to capture the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Small School title.

  • Mia Capilli, Elmira girls soccer: She scored two goals in regulation and converted her attempt during the penalty-kick shootout as Elmira advanced to the Class AAA state tournament with a shootout win over Corning after the teams played to a 2-2 tie in the Section 4 final.

  • Matt Higgins, Owego Free Academy boys soccer: He scored three goals in a 7-3 victory over Maine-Endwell in the Section 4 Class A championship game.

  • Iago Lopez, Ithaca boys soccer: He had four goals and an assist to lead Ithaca to a 5-0 triumph against Vestal in the Section 4 Class AA title contest.

  • Brooke Terwilliger, Corning diving: She shattered the Section 4 record for 11-dive score with a point total of 590.30 in a 99-84 dual-meet victory against Ithaca.
