See which Topeka-area swimmers, divers shined at the KSHSAA State Championship

LENEXA — The top swimmers in the state converged on the Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center for the state championship. The three-day event concluded on Saturday with Topeka-area swimmers leaving their mark.

Here are the top results from the state championship meet.

Clas 6A

Washburn Rural’s Audrey Appuhn led the field from the Topeka-area. She finished in fifth place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.72. The sophomore also earned sixth place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.70.

Washburn Rural’s Rhiannon Good also had a solid showing in the diving portion of the state championship. Good finished in seventh place with a score of 359.40 points.

Class 5-1A

Seaman concluded an outstanding season that saw it finish in third place on Saturday. It earned 147 points with Blue Valley Southwest and Andover topping the Vikings.

Avery Walz was a top performer for Seaman. She finished in second place in the 200-yard IM with a 2:09.40.  Walz also took second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.17.

Walz played a crucial role in Seaman’s second-place finish in the 200-yard medley. She was the first leg of the relay with Joslynn Grace, Tauren Walz and Avery Samuelson. The team ended with a 1:56.24.

Grace finished in the top eight in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM. Tauren Walz also earned a top eight finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly.

Hayden’s Kaylee Gregg and Maddie Gregg highlighted the diving portion of the state championship. Kaylee finished in fifth place with 364.80 points. Maddie took 11th with 280.95.
