As Southern Grounds & Co. prepares to open this month at Jacksonville International Airport, the popular Jacksonville restaurant is already planning a second location at the Northside airport.

The additional airport restaurant was announced at a recent Jacksonville Aviation Authority meeting, John Finotti, a Southern Grounds spokesman, confirmed to the Times-Union.

The announcement was first reported separately by both the Jacksonville Daily Record and Jacksonville Business Journal.

Expected to open next year, the second Southern Grounds will be located before the security checkpoint, making it accessible to all travelers and airport visitors.

Meanwhile, the inaugural airport Southern Grounds is expected to open by the end of January post-security in Concourse A. That location is open only to ticketed travelers.

Southern Grounds owner Mark Janasik previously told the Times-Union that the restaurant gives JIA "an opportunity to create a sense of place and showcase a local brand in Jacksonville that serves great coffee and healthy food options more than a traditional coffeehouse."

Janasik also said that HMSHost will operate the airport Southern Grounds as part of a licensing agreement.

Southern Grounds currently has restaurants in Neptune Beach, San Marco and Avondale.
