Seahawks vs. Saints: Week 7 preview and prediction

For the third consecutive week, the Seattle Seahawks are once again receiving the prime time treatment. Following outings on Thursday Night Football and Sunday Night Football, the Seahawks complete the cycle by closing out Week 7 on Monday Night Football when they will host the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints have become a somewhat familiar guest for the Seahawks. From 2010-2013, Lumen Field had become quite the House of Horrors for New Orleans.

2010 – Saints lose 41-36 to the 7-9 Seahawks in the Wild Card round, the infamous “BeastQuake” game.

2013 – Saints are obliterated 34-7 on Monday Night Football.

2013 – Saints stumble 23-15 in a Divisional Round loss.

However, the last time the Saints came to the Emerald City they evened the score a little. During Week 3 of the 2019 season, New Orleans came into Seattle and essentially beat the brakes off the Seahawks. The final score of 33-27 was not indicative of how uncompetitive the game was, as New Orleans led 33-14 in the fourth quarter.

The Saints managed the road upset without the aid of Drew Brees. Instead it was veteran journeyman Teddy Bridgewater leading the charge in his first start since 2015. Over the past few seasons, the Saints have proven they are more than capable of winning without the likes of Brees under center, which does not bode well for the Seahawks.

Prediction: Saints over Seahawks 28-17

Seattle is 28-10 all time on Monday Night Football, which is good for the best win percentage (.737) in NFL history. They are likely in for a rare loss to the Saints.

Simply put, this Saints team is a bad matchup for the Seahawks. Especially without Russell Wilson. Backup quarterback Geno Smith has played admirably in relief of Wilson, but this offense is still struggling to move the ball consistently. As for the defense, any signs of life they showed last week is more likely attributable to the fact the Steelers have perhaps the worst offense in the NFL.

New Orleans is coming off a bye, which means they’ve had an entire extra week of rest to prepare for a defense still very much on pace to be the worst in the Super Bowl era.
