Seahawks met with Michigan QB prospect JJ McCarthy again

Here is certainly an interesting development. The Seattle Seahawks have once again met with Michigan Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy. This was right before his Pro Day. It is also the second time the Seahawks have met with McCarthy, as they spent time with him at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The prolonged attention on McCarthy is certainly worth noting, especially with head coach Mike Macdonald’s connection to him. The Seahawks recently traded for Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, and already named Geno Smith the starter. The Howell trade alone likely signified Seattle was out of the running for drafting a quarterback this year, or moving up to get one of the top options.

Perhaps this is nothing. Perhaps John Schneider and Macdonald are simply doing their due diligence at the most important position in sports. It wouldn’t be the first time a team has done this. Still, one cannot help but be more than a little curious as to what the Seahawks brass see in McCarthy.

The point is probably moot, but if Seattle were to fall in love with him as “their guy” it would take quite a hefty trade to move up from No. 16 to grab him in the 2024 NFL draft.
