Seacoast roundup: York, Portsmouth baseball walk off with wins, Newmarket throws no-hitter

YORK, Maine - A two-run homer in the seventh inning sent the game into extra innings, and a grand slam won it in the eighth for the York High School baseball team on Monday.

Fryeburg scored two unearned runs in the eighth inning to take a two-run lead, but Ben Brown blasted a walk-off grand slam to win it as the Wildcats rallied for a 10-8 win in this Class B South game.

Falmouth took a 6-2 lead into the seventh inning, but the Wildcats scored four runs, highlighted by a Jack Joyce two-run homer.

Brown allowed four runs, just one earned, over the final four innings, earning the win. Connor Fell had two hits for York, while Brad Carr had one hit and two RBIs.

PORTSMOUTH - Porter Lalime scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch with the bases loaded as Portsmouth improved to 8-7 with this Division I win. Londonderry, the defending Division I state champions, is now 12-3.

Portsmouth's Joe Zingariello scattered six hits and struck out two over seven innings in the complete-game win.

Nick Gladu got the Clippers on the board in the second inning as he scored on a wild pitch with two outs. In the fifth, Portsmouth's Gar Hindle walked and scored the game-tying run on a two-out error.Pinkerton 11

DERRY - Caleb Vinciguerra, Wesley Alfonso, and Hunter Trueman each had a single for Spaulding, which dropped its sixth straight Division I game.

HOLLIS - Sam Grondin struck out eight and allowed three hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings, leading St. Thomas to this Division II win.

Kenny Avery led the Saints with four hits and five RBIs, while Graham Willerer, Cade Murphy, Timmy Avery, Michael Skowron and Thaao Papakonstantis all had two hits.

Willerer and Papakonstantis both scored three runs, and Murphy had two RBIs.

DURHAM - Owen Jacques struck out four and allowed one earned run over four innings, earning this Division II win for the Bobcats.

NEWMARKET - Junior John Schlieder struck out 17 and didn't allow a hit as Newmarket improved to 12-1 with this Division IV win.

Parker Sweitzer blasted a solo home run for the Mules, while Sean Vincent had a hit, RBI and run scored, and Cam Moran (hit, walk) and Ryan Houle (RBI) both contributed.

YORK, Maine - Freshman Sarah Orso had two homers and five RBIs as York improved to 10-0 with this Class B South win.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Senior McKayla Kortes allowed one hit and struck out eight over five innings. She also had two doubles and two RBIs. Teammates Maddie Fitzgerald, Lindsay Rivers, Ella Hickey all had one hit.

DURHAM - Addy Veno blasted a three-run homer and Kate Michaud also homered and had three RBIs as Oyster River improved to 12-2 with this Division II win.

Gracy Spirito, Maddy Veno, Sam Bishop and Morgan Trela all had two hits for the Bobcats. Bishop allowed three hits over six innings, earning the win.

PORTSMOUTH - Ginger Vinciguerra had four goals, and Annie Parker had three goals and one assist, leading Portsmouth to this Division I win.

Portsmouth girls relay sets school mark

DURHAM - The foursome of Avery Timerman, Sienna Metcalf, Mariam Nada, Lily Jenkins set a Portsmouth High School girls record in the 4x100-meter relay with a first-place time of 49.91 seconds at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.

The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Timerman, Lily Patterson, Metcalf and Jenkins, won in a time of 3:332.32.

Jenkins also won the 100 (12.83), while teammate Maria Akalonu won the discus (110 feet, 1 inch).

In the boys meet, Portsmouth's 4x400-meter relay team, comprised of Briggs Catino, Will Hart, Nico Ranalli, Theo Beattie, won in a time of 3:33.32.

VOLLEYBALL

Winnacunnet 3

Farmington 0

FARMINGTON - Thomas Enright's eight kills, two aces and one block led Winnacunnet to this Division I win.

Individual set scores were 25-15, 25-8, 25-9.

Bryce Molnar had 12 assists, one kill and one block for the Warriors, while Murphy Wall had two kills, six aces and one block.
