Sand Rock Katelyn St. Clair still building her legacy but so far she's elevated two Sand Rock programs

JACKSONVILLE −Katelyn St. Clair's time at Sand Rock has seen her elevate the level of two Wildcats girls teams.

Last fall she helped lead the Wildcats to the first volleyball final in school history, helping them finally get over their Final Four hump. This season in basketball she helped get the program back to Jacksonville for the first time since her freshman year in 2020. Along the way she has recorded 2,000 kills in volleyball and 2,000 points in basketball.

"Katelyn's a special athlete in every sport she does, and puts everything into what she does," Lisa Bates, Sand Rock's volleyball and girls basketball coach, said. "She was tremendous for us in volleyball and key for us in basketball. Overall a multisport athlete that has meant a lot to Sand Rock. She cares a lot about Sand Rock, she loves Sand Rock."

At a school like Sand Rock, it's not uncommon to see three-sport athletes due to the pool of athletes that the school has to pull from, but St. Clair stands out due to her ability to be a game-changer in all three of her sports, including softball.

Even with a 62-51 loss in the AHSAA Jacksonville Regional, St. Clair's legacy will be one of someone who changed the standard for multiple sports and showed the next generation of Wildcat athletes what is possible if they are willing to put in the work.

"It means a lot to know I'll be remembered for many things and that little girls look up to me," St. Clair said. "I want them to see how hard I worked and they need to do it, too, to succeed and that they can do it, it's not impossible."

St. Clair finished with 19 points and four rebounds and four assists, after scoring 16 points in the first half. She played up until the final moment, showing her dedication to Sand Rock and the programs she has been a part of.

St. Clair will now close out her legacy on the softball diamond this spring.
