San Francisco Giants unveil Nike City Connect jersey ahead of Washington National series

The San Francisco Giants unveiled their collaboration with Nike as part of the inaugural MLB City Connect Series.

The Giants are the sixth MLB team to unveil their jersey for the series, which includes the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins. The Los Angeles Dodgers are due to unveil in August.

"We are excited to partner with Nike on this collaborative jersey series, which will further show, through this unique artwork, what a special and unique place San Francisco is to so many who both live here and visit," said Mario Alioto, Giants Executive VP of Business Operations said in a statement.

"The imagery of the Golden Gate Bridge and our summertime fog connects our players, our fans and our community to this amazing city."

The City Connect Series jerseys are a modification of the San Francisco’s home whites, and emphasize the team’s orange colors, which the Giants have had since the organization’s days in New York. On the chest is an orange block "G" fading into a mist, meant to represent the notorious San Francisco fog. On the sleeve, an orange outline of the Golden Gate Bridge is shrouded by the same mist, and the numbers on the back of the jersey also have the same effect. The full "Giants" logo at the base of the jersey has a cloud of thick fog interspersed through the letters.

According to the team’s statement, the two images are a combination of "beauty, strength and intrigue" and the jersey "conveys a mood and symbol of pride that you are in the presence of Giants in this vibrant city, home to some of the greatest baseball fans in the world."

Oracle Park — the Giants’ home field since 2000 — sits on the edge of the San Francisco Bay. The Golden Gate Bridge sits about a 20-minute drive away.

In conjunction with the City Connect Series jersey, the Giants are sharing local stories that show a piece of San Francisco. The first set of honorees are the Lowell High School softball and baseball teams — both championship teams this season — and Janice "JJ" Conley, staff member of the Willie Mays Boys & Girls Club, located in the city’s Bayview Hunter’s Point neighborhood.

The Giants will introduce the City Connect Jersey on Saturday, July 10 at marina Green East during a free event featuring food, music, performances and more.

San Francisco will wear the jerseys for the first time during the upcoming weekend series against the Washington Nationals, July 9-11, and the Giants are set to don their new threads in six additional games this season.
