Former Xavier University Musketeers standout Rylan Bannon, an infielder promoted earlier in the day to the Baltimore Orioles' taxi squad, made his Major League debut Thursday at third base for the team and collected his first big-league hit - a single to left in his first at-bat during the 2nd inning of the Orioles' 3-2 win against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Bannon didn't find out until after midnight Eastern - from Triple-A Norfolk manager Buck Britton - that he needed to get to St. Louis for the game Thursday afternoon, per MLB.com's Zachary Silver.

A remarkable juggling catch Bannon made hours earlier for the Tides was included among Top 10 Plays on ESPN's "SportsCenter."

Reactions to Bannon's debut and first hit, including video:

In 2018, Bannon was one of five players traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Orioles for star infielder Manny Machado.

Bannon, 26, was selected in the 8th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft by the Dodgers.

He's one of 18 players on MLB rosters from Greater Cincinnati high schools and/or colleges.
