Rutgers men’s basketball vs Maryland: Prediction, point spread, odds, best bet

With February winding down, Rutgers men’s basketball will welcome the Maryland Terrapins to Jersey Mike’s Arena on Sunday afternoon. In a Big Ten matchup between two teams with 14 wins, Maryland will be looking for revenge.

When these two programs faced each other earlier this month, Rutgers emerged with a 56-53 win. Since then, Maryland has posted a 1-3 record. As they look to get back in the win column, the Terrapins will have their hands full against a motivated Rutgers team that includes Clifford Omoruyi.

After a slow start to the month, Omoruyi has scored at least 10 points in two of his last four games. In that span, he added 33 rebounds to his resume. In order for Maryland to add another conference win to their resume, they will need to limit Omoruyi’s impact on the boards.

With both teams hungry for a win, this game should be full of fireworks.

Players to watch

Jeremiah Williams: So far this month, Rutgers has been at their best when Williams is involved in the offense. He has averaged 13 points and 4.8 rebounds in six games. Against Purdue on Thursday, he scored 12 points and hauled in two rebounds. It was the fifth time this month that Williams scored at least 10 points.

Jahmir Young: Through 27 games, Young has been Maryland’s best player. He is averaging a team-high 21.1 points per game and making an impact on the boards. For Maryland to avenge their loss earlier this month to Rutgers, they will need Young to have a big game.

Past History

Entering this matchup, Rutgers has bragging rights. Rutgers emerged with a 56-53 win when these two programs met on February sixth. In that game Mawot Mag and Jeremiah Williams scored a combined 29 points. Rutgers also dominated close to the basket, scoring 32 points in the paint.

Prediction

Take Rutgers in this one. They will be highly motivated to get back in the win column after a disappointing performance against Purdue on Thursday. Rutgers has already shown that they can beat Maryland earlier this month and will have home-court advantage. They are 11-3 at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
