Will Rutgers football get a visit from four-star Micah Matthews?

Micah Matthews was offered by Rutgers football on Thursday with the athlete from Virginia saying that he has been following the Scarlet Knights recently and has great respect for the program.

Matthews is a four-star athlete from Turner Ashby (Bridgewater, Virginia). He has a significant offer list that includes Kentucky, Liberty, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others.

Per 247Sports, Matthews is the No. 61 player in the nation and the second-best player in Virginia. He checks in at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds.

The offer from Rutgers came in for him as a wide receiver, he tells Rutgers Wire. He broke down the offer and what it means to him during an interview on Friday morning.

“I’ve been in contact with them for a while now and they’ve come to see me a few times at my school,” Matthews told Rutgers Wire.

“So last evening, I was on the phone with the head coach and he talked to me about the program and how they view me then he offered me. I have a high respect for the program and I’ve followed them all season and love the way the grind and play.”

The offer from head coach Greg Schiano was well-received by the Virginia athlete.

“The message was simple,” Matthews said.

“Come be a part of the movement and a genuine family that is transparent and will develop me.”

Matthews says his best sport is actually baseball. Last year, he batted .400 with a home run and 18 runs batted in and 24 runs scored.

Baseball could impact his ability to have many free weekends this spring but he is hoping to make at least three football visits.

“I play baseball as well so that has an impact on the schools I’m interested in. I have more baseball offers than football but this spring I’m going to Clemson, Kentucky and Rutgers,” Matthews said.

“I’m hoping my baseball schedule allows all this cause I will be in season.”
