Rutgers basketball is among three schools Joey Hart is considering

One of the top uncommitted players in the class of 2023, Indiana guard Joey Hart has Rutgers basketball in the mix with a decision possibly coming soon.

In mid-May, Hart was granted his release from Central Florida, allowing now for the talented shooter a second chance at his recruitment. He scored over 1,900 points in his four seasons of high school basketball.

Hart is a three-star recruit and a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Linton-Stockton High School (Linton, IN).

According to the Indianapolis Star, Rutgers is in the mix along with Indiana and Kentucky to land Hart. He is expected to visit Kentucky this weekend.

“I’m definitely interested in IU and I think they are interested in me as well,” Hart told the Indianapolis Star. “We’ll see where we’re at after (the Kentucky visit) … they said they would get back to me after my trip to Kentucky.”

Hart is a dynamic scorer, who has a good outside game but can dribble, drive and create his own shot. He gets to the rim very effectively and almost effortlessly.

He could also step into the Rutgers backcourt and challenge for minutes almost immediately. Cam Spencer left the program this offseason to enter the transfer portal, creating an opening for a scorer. Hart is a far more versatile scorer than Spencer, with the class of 2023 recruit able to create his own shot off the dribble as well as slash to the basket.

Potentially, Hart would fit in well alongside Derek Simpson, who showed down the stretch last year as a true freshman that he has the ability to run the Rutgers offense. Hart’s game could also blend well with UMass transfer Noah Fernandes, who has a good 3-point shot.
