The Rush: Tom Brady unretires, steals spotlight from KG, Kyrie, Mahomes

Tom Brady stole the spotlight on yet another jam-packed Sunday, announcing his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just 41 days after retiring from the NFL. The news of Brady playing a 23rd NFL season overshadowed Selection Sunday ahead of the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tournaments, Kyrie Irving sitting courtside as Kevin Durant dropped 53 points at the Barclays Center and the decade-long feud between Boston’s Big 3 came to an end as the Celtics retired Kevin Garnett’s jersey with Ray Allen in attendance. PLUS: Tom Brady may also have ruined Patrick Mahomes’ Wedding Day.

[MUSIC - EMINEM, "WITHOUT ME"]

- (SINGING) Guess who's back, back again. Shady's back. Tell a friend. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back. Guess who's back.

JARED QUAY: Six weeks? Hell, not even six weeks. 41 days is how long it took Tom Brady to realize how much harder it is to be a stay at home dad than an NFL quarterback. So Brady is returning to the Buccaneers for his 23rd season. Maybe it was also due to watching 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo score a hat trick for Manchester United against Tottenham. Brady decided right then and there, he ain't done.

- We're done when I say we're done.

JARED QUAY: And in typical Tom Brady fashion, his announcement derailed a bunch of really important sports news. Not even the most sacred of event, March Madness, could escape Brady's solar eclipse.

- Now get out of the way. You're blocking the sun.

JARED QUAY: Selection Sunday for the NCAA tournament revealed that South Carolina is taking the number one seed for women's basketball, and Gonzaga, once again, is nabbing the top spot on the men's side. There was plenty of drama between snubs and Coach K's difficult quest for one last championship, but no one's talking about any of that.

- Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you. I'm going to let you finish.

JARED QUAY: Tom Brady even swayed the spotlight away from Mr. center of attention himself, Kyrie Irving. The unvaccinated point guard made a dramatic appearance at Barclays Center to sit courtside and watch Kevin Durant drop 53 points as the Nets took a 110-107 victory over the Knicks. The fact that he can't play home games because he's unvaccinated, but still can hit 10 home games as a fan has everyone baffled, confused, and ready to fight. Hell, I don't get it either.

- It's ridiculous. I don't understand it at all. There's a few people in our arena that's unvaxxed, right? They lifted all of that in our arena, right? I don't get it.

JARED QUAY: That had people's attention for about five, six minutes, because you know who decided to pull a Brett Favre.

- When you're older than most of the fans, and coaches, and owners, it's tough taking orders from people.

JARED QUAY: A decade long blood feud was squashed in the most storied sports franchise in Boston, and it barely made a blip on the radar.

- Check radar jamming system.

JARED QUAY: On Sunday, Kevin Garnett had his Jersey retired by the Celtics, and Ray Allen was finally released from the big three exile.

- It's good to see Ray Allen here, man, real [BLEEP].

JARED QUAY: The ceremony had just about all the Celtics Royalty reunited and celebrating, and Tom Brady couldn't stand to be out of the spotlight in his long time city.

- I'm the [BLEEP] quarterback, you moron.

JARED QUAY: Another great quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, was probably just trying to spend his wedding day in peace. The Chiefs quarterback married his longtime girlfriend Brittany in Hawaii.

- Aw.

JARED QUAY: Now, just imagine, he's sitting there, eating a slice of cake, or maybe waltzing on the dance floor when Tom Brady announces he's back. Boom! The wedding is ruined. See, we out here playing checkers, and Tom Brady is playing chess.

- Checkmate, game, set, match.

JARED QUAY: If it wasn't bad enough that he beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl, Brady now is in Mahomes head as the guy who ruined his wedding day. Think about it. The pastor is probably like, hey, anybody speak now or forever hold your peace.

And one of his boys in the back like, dang man, Tom Brady coming back, and everybody started talking. Next thing you know, Mahomes ran out, and he was like, man, I can't take this right now. There's too much on my mind. He might not even really got married. I don't know. We've got to fact check it.
