Runners race the clock in Time Travel half-marathon

Jan. 7—St. Joseph's bravest runners braced the cold Sunday morning for the Time Travel half-marathon hosted by Bodies Race Company.

90 some runners gathered outside of the Heritage Park Softball Complex to participate in either the half-marathon, 10k or 5k.

Some participants donned their most prehistoric apparel by dressing up as dinosaurs. Runners of all skill sets were welcomed and encouraged to race, regardless of age, experience or T-Rex costuming.

"It's all about the atmosphere for sure," A member of the race crew, Amanda Waller, said. "We are very much a kind of couch to 5k plus sort of environment. We look for anybody, whether you're a beginner, whether you have done several marathons, everyone's welcome here."

While most participants raced in the half-marathon, 10k or 5k, the younger runners were given the opportunity to race across the finish line in the kids' dash.

"We'll just take the kiddos out, have them run through the finish line," Waller said. "The whole crowd gets to cheering them on. It's really exciting for them. We get everyone from the ones that just are beginning to talk to the kids that are really competitive."

Bodies Race Company will return to St. Joseph with the Couple Shuffle 10k on February 4. The race includes a designer shirt and custom medal, chip-timing, live results and awards, free photos and a kids' dash.
