Rumor: Warriors among teams targeting Chris Duarte in NBA draft

Rumor: Warriors among teams targeting Chris Duarte in NBA draft

Oregon Ducks guard Chris Duarte on Sunday will reportedly conduct a second workout with the Golden State Warriors, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Duarte previously worked out with the Warriors on July 16 as the 6-foot-6 standout has improved his draft stock immensely as of late. His name has climbed up mock drafts after a strong showing with teams in workouts and interviews.

In addition to the Warriors, the New York Knicks are also reportedly targeting Duarte in the draft. Of course, the Warriors own the seventh and 14th picks, while New York has 19 and 21, which both fall in his projected range.

Oregon guard Chris Duarte, a projected top-20 pick, received an invite to the draft Green Room at Barclays Center and his stock is rising in eyes of teams. Golden State and New York are among the teams eyeing Duarte, who has a second workout with the Warriors on Sunday, sources said.

Duarte was named to the All-Pac 12 first team last season after averaging 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 steals in 29 games as a senior. He was one of only two Division I players to average at least 17 points and 1.9 steals on 50% shooting from the field.

He demonstrated last season at Oregon the ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor, something teams covet at the next level. He led the Pac-12 in steals and proved on a nightly basis he can perform at an elite level on defense.

The 24-year-old believes he should be a lottery pick on Thursday, which could happen if the Warriors elect to take him at 14. In any case, it should be interesting to see if he’ll get his wish of getting drafted within the first 14 picks.
