Rubley wins three events to lead Dundee in Clinton Invitational

CLINTON – Dundee’s boys rang up 115 points to capture the championship of the Clinton Red Wolves Invitational Saturday.

Leslie was second with 98 while Summerfield placed eighth with 30.

Isaak Rubley won the 800 (2:13.7), 1,600 (4:48.77) and 3,200 (10:31.15) meters, and Jackson Martin ruled the long jump (19-2) to lead the Vikings.

Seconds came from Jackson Martin (100) and Braiden Whitaker (high jump) and thirds from Whitaker (200).

Others in the top five were Dallas Bensch, Matthew Morales, TK Westbrook, Abel Bruck, Braxton Eliason and Julius Jenkins.

Teddy Gault won the high jump (6-0) and took second in the high hurdles for Summerfield, which also got top-five finishes from Mitchell Gomulinski and Jackson Iott.

Girls Track Previews: Pate piles up academic awards heading into senior season

Maddie Salenbien won the 100 (:13.57) and 200 (:28.58) meters and placed second in the 400 and third in the long jump to help Dundee’s girls take third place with 99 points.

Summerfield was fifth with 68. Hudson took first with 110.

Other Dundee standouts were Allie Root, Kaylee Hovey, Gabby Hovey, Sophia Nolff, Chani Vincent, Brianna Cousino, Lily Ratliff and Allie Root.

Summerfield got a win in the low hurdles from Cameron Taylor (:52.8) and top-five finishes from Bethany Suydam and Grace Raymond.

PREP BASEBALL

Whiteford starts fast

YPSILANTI – Whiteford got its season started by sweeping Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 5-0 and 18-4 Saturday.

Logan Tammerine and Nate Stevens earned the pitching wins.

Logan Keane led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, while Tre Eitniear and Stevens added three hits each.

Flat Rock savages split

WYANDOTTE – Strong pitching by Mike Giroux helped Flat Rock beat Wyandotte Roosevelt 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Wyandotte scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first game 5-4.

Anthony Hernandez led the offense with three hits in the first game and one in the second.

Monroe drops two

ALLEN PARK – Allen Park scored six times in the first inning for the only runs of the game in a 6-0 win over Monroe Saturday.

Monroe also dropped the second game 11-2.

Gavin Bileck had a hit and drew three walks for Monroe.

Big day for Gennoe

NEWPORT – Freshman Bret Gennoe racked up five hits, including a walk-off, as Jefferson squared its record at 2-2 by sweeping Hazel Park 6-4 and 4-3 Saturday.

Gennoe singled home the game-winning run in the seventh inning of the second game.

Chene Mielen had two hits in the first game, and Luke Beaudrie did the same in the second. Jon Leffew earned his first varsity win in the opener.

Bedford pitching strong

TECUMSEH – Bedford gave up four hits in each game during a 5-2, 8-2 sweep of Tecumseh Saturday.

Braylon Czarnik and Griffin Brush threw the first game, and Cade McNamara and Aiden Schoch took the mound in the second.

Nolan Laskey led the offense, going 4-for-8 with five RBIs.

Brody Leonhard logged three hits in the first game. Andrew Kuebbeler went 2-for-3 in the second.

Mason rallies to win

HILLSDALE – Erie Mason scored four times with two outs in the seventh inning to pull out a 13-12 triumph over Hillsdale Saturday.

Vaughn Brown collected three hits, two walks and two runs. Lucas Hutson and Anderson Moore drove in three runs each while Hutson, Cole Kreger and winning pitcher Xavier Wise added two hits apiece.

The Eagles dropped the opener 9-2 despite two hits and two RBI from Karter Stubleski.

Smith delivers big hit

CARLETON – Airport beat Woodhaven 3-1 and fell 10-3 to Dexter in Saturday’s Joe Hamilton Invitational.

Carter Smith snapped a 1-1 tie against Woodhaven with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Cooper Nye the win.

The Jets are 2-2.

Triple play saves Huron

LIVONIA – New Boston Huron wrapped up a 7-3 win over Livonia Stevenson Saturday by ending the game with a 6-4-3-5 triple play.

Winning pitcher Kyle Kantola provided the big hit with a three-run double in the fourth inning.

Jacob Furkas rang up four hits and five RBI.

Cash Moczydlowsky logged the other pitching win.

PREP SOFTBALL

Huron tied up

TRENTON – Emma Sic and Rylie Gregoo rang up three hits each as New Boston Huron and Trenton slugged their way to a 10-10 tie Saturday.

“Both teams had some big hits, extra-base hits at that,” Huron coach Tedi Belisle said. “Offensively, it’s a good matchup and fun to watch. You have pure hitters on both sides, so you never really can get comfortable.”

Marissa Jackson, Jenna Kuzma, Addison Ramsby and Maria Robbins added two hits each.

Dundee, Ida split

IDA – Ida bounced back after losing the first game 13-3 to outslug Dundee 16-13 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Shay VanZandt rang up four hits and Kennedy Irwin, Kiernan Brown and Ella Rath added three each for Dundee.

“It was a great learning day for us as we continue to lose focus in our second game and are making a ton of errors right now,” Dundee coach Mickey Moody said. “The girls are battling through it.”

Jessica Schrader rang up five hits for Ida. Kelsey Stein and Resse Hennessey led the defense.

Summerfield's Olmstead excels

BELLEVILLE – Brea Olmsted struck out 16 and blasted a two-run home run to lead Summerfield past Belleville 11-7 Saturday.

Belleville scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the second game 11-10.

Mia Samples, Faith Secor and Kylee Nevel sparked the offense and Samples, Mia Miller and Ava Fisher made key plays on defense.

“Each player on our team fought until the end,” Summerfield coach Christine Zappone said. “This group of players has grit.”

SMCC logs 24 hits

OREGON, Ohio – St. Mary Catholic Central rapped out 24 hits Saturday in splitting a doubleheader against Clay, winning the opener 9-6 and dropping the second game 7-6 in extra innings.

Tori Busen went 3-for-4 and drive in three in the first game to help Abby Lechy earn the win.

Olivia Piepsney went 3-for-5 and Jada Worrell homered in the second game.

Ewing lifts Bedford

TECUMSEH – Libby Ewing netted two goals and an assist as Bedford beat Tecumseh 2-1 and Coldwater 3-1 Saturday.

Summerfield grad shines

LAWRENCE, Kansas – Summerfield graduate Derek Clark threw all nine innings and gave up just three hits with seven strikeouts to lead West Virginia past Kansas 4-0 Saturday.

He lowered his earned-run average to 1.70.

FRESHMAN BASEBALL

Bedford sweeps

TOLEDO – Christopher Willimas and Jacob Krohn led the offense as Bedford swept Toledo Central Catholic 7-2 and 12-6 Saturday.
