Roundup: Zane Trace, Piketon, Paint Valley cruise in SVC openers, Waverly stomps Valley

CHILLICOTHE − Local scores from Week Four of high school football:

Zane Trace 49, Adena 39: The Pioneers scored more points than in their last two games combined as they outlasted the Warriors for their first Scioto Valley Conference win of the year on Friday night. Blake Phillips did what he does best by scoring three touchdowns throughout the game, and he ended the night with 97 rushing yards total. Gunnar McCullough added on 83 rushing yards on 18 carries.

Silas Stewart and Aaden Dunn both led the receiving corps after accumulating 62 yards each, and Stewart also scored a touchdown. Jayden Higgins made just one reception, but he made it count. He scored a touchdown of his own on a 38-yard reception.

Zane Trace totaled six tackles for loss by the end of the game. Brice Johnson put up two himself, while Spencer Brower and Phillips had 1.5 apiece. JT Jenkins also added one of his own.

Paint Valley 49, Southeastern 9: The Bearcats notched a win of their own in Week Four after cruising to a win over the Panthers at home on Friday. They led by 30 points midway through the second quarter, and they'd piled on another touchdown by the time the Panthers responded with a touchdown and field goal of their own headed into the half.

They weren't finished. They tacked on another two touchdowns in the second half, and they held the Panthers scoreless after halftime to lock down their third win of the year as well as their first conference win.

Piketon 41, Huntington 7: The Redstreaks kept their undefeated streak rolling into conference play after putting up their second game in a row in which they've scored 40 points or more.

Buddy Wilson himself scored four touchdowns in the win, including a 77-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter that put the Redstreaks up by four possessions. Brent McGuire scored on a 15-yard pass from Luke Gullion, and Tyler Tackett closed the first half after taking an interception 49 yards back for a touchdown. Gavin Blanton also picked up an interception of his own for the Redstreaks.

The Huntsmen, despite being held scoreless until the fourth quarter, still acquired a pair of turnovers. Noah Potter recovered a fumble in the second quarter, and Landon Neff picked off Gullion in the fourth quarter. Potter also scored the Huntsmen's lone touchdown after a 10-yard rush in the fourth.

Waverly 48, Valley 8: There aren't many better ways that Waverly could've opened its Southern Ohio Conference schedule. It scored its most points in a game thus far this season, and it was once again commanded by the presence of Mason Kelly and Jase Hurd. Kelly went 12-for-18 with 235 passing yards and four touchdowns on Friday, while Hurd netted 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Kody Swords ended the game with 74 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Mason Pollard led the receivers unit with 79 yards overall and one touchdown. Mason Sparks rounded out the scoring with 63 receiving yards and one touchdown to his name.

Hurd, Cade Carroll and Carson Peters also picked up three interceptions combined throughout the game. Quinton Hurd and Jack Holsinger each picked up two tackles for loss, while Mike Delgado and Sebastian Billisano had one tackle for loss apiece.

Harvest Prep 40, Chillicothe 7: The Cavaliers took another loss on the chin after falling to the Warriors while at home on Friday. Their lone touchdown of the night came in the third quarter after Juan Miller completed a 12-yard pass to Tylar Speakman. Miller passed for 19 yards by the end of the game, and his other completion came off a seven-yard pass to Truitt McGlone.

Shawn Smith put up another solid outing after rushing for 55 yards on 20 carries. Jett McAllister totaled 34 yards on nine attempts, and Oscar Morgan put up six yards on three carries.
