Roundup: Watkins Memorial boys soccer blanks Johnstown

Tyler Vincent’s goal two minutes into the second half Wednesday broke a scoreless tie and sparked the Watkins Memorial boys soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Johnstown in Licking County League play.

Sam Eikens added a late goal for the Warriors (7-4, 4-0), who won their sixth consecutive match, and Chase Massie and Andy Sanchez had an assist apiece. Jonny Murphy made three saves.

Camden Jordan made eight saves for the Johnnies (4-4-2, 1-2-1).

Heights wins at Northridge

Harun Hassan scored twice, boosting Licking Heights to a 3-1 victory at Northridge in LCL play.

Chris Anderson also scored for the Hornets (2-6-2, 2-1-1), and Ryan Cote had two assists. Max Fink made five saves.

Jack Van Fossen scored for the Vikings (7-3, 1-3). Austin Saloum made eight saves.

Granville cruises

Kate Timmons and Charlie Wright scored two goals apiece for Granville in a 5-0 victory against visiting Zanesville (2-6-2, 1-2-1) in LCL play.

Nolan Schneider also scored, and Timmons added an assist for the Blue Aces (6-2-1, 4-0). Jacob Lucas-Miller made one save.

VOLLEYBALL

Granville sweeps

Raegan Schmidt led the Granville defense with 18 digs in a victory against visiting New Albany, 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.

Taylor Warehime added 18 assists and Olivia Priano five aces for the Blue Aces (8-5).

Heights wins at Valley

Taylor Porterfield and Elise McLaughlin each distributed 17 assists Tuesday, helping Licking Heights beat host Licking Valley, 27-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-23, in LCL-Buckeye play.

Brooklyn Hall added 15 kills and five aces and Ava VonBargen 25 digs for the Hornets (7-7, 6-2).

Makala Bennett and Rylee Sensabaugh had nine kills apiece, Maddie Banks 18 assists and 18 digs and Audrey Adkins three aces for the Panthers (6-6, 4-4).

GIRLS TENNIS

Watkins edged

Claudia Schaar won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, 0-6, 6-3, 1-0, for Watkins Memorial on Tuesday in a 3-2 loss at Pickerington North.

Nora Grennan added a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
