Roundup: Utica boys cross country wins The Hux championship

The Utica boys cross country team used its depth Tuesday to win its The Hux Invitational at Camp Ohio.

Hayden Quinif ran a time of 19:25.85 to place fifth and lead Utica, which totaled 40 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Licking Valley’s 71. Following for the winners were Anthony Unger seventh (20:06.75), Breyden Hill 10th (20:18.74), Jordan Taylor 11th (20:38.16) and Stephen Epps 12th (20:57.72).

Northridge’s Braden Yutzy took the individual win (18:21.89). Heath’s Tucker See followed in second (18:39.50), Northridge’s Ben Hilton fourth (19:18.00), Valley’s Sam Busic eighth (20:16.17) and Licking Heights’ Oliver Mills ninth (20:18.42).

In the girls race, Heights’ Addison Caudill took runner-up (22:53.88). Northridge’s Sarah Koker followed in third for the team champion Vikings, who totaled 51 points, 11 ahead of the runner-up Hornets.

Heights’ Morgan Watkins was fifth (24:17.14), Utica’s Camryn Baker sixth (24:46.42), Northridge’s Cheyann Severance seventh (24:50.25), Utica’s Carlie Hill eighth (25:05.02), Northridge’s Albree Ashbrook-Hall ninth (25:08.36) and Valley’s Stella Bowman 11th (25:34.38).

VOLLEYBALL

Granville wins at Heights

Raegan Schmidt served three aces and racked up 24 digs for Granville in a victory, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 26-24, at Licking Heights (2-1, 2-1) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Clara Wildermuth added 18 kills. Elle Mortimer, Jenna George and Grace Hotchkiss combined for 11 blocks for the Blue Aces (4-1, 2-0).

Alyssa Hill had 11 kills for the Hornets. Taylor Porterfield added 24 assists and Ava VonBargen 28 digs.

Heath beats Northridge

Kinley Kaminsky’s 13 kills and three blocks led Heath to a victory at Northridge, 25-13, 27-25, 25-16, in LCL-Cardinal play.

Logan Johnston added six kills, Ansley Harbage five kills and 12 assists, Ysa Barcelona 17 assists and Caroline Robertson 10 digs for the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0).

Kenzie Giffin led the Vikings (3-4, 1-2) with three kills and six blocks. Tristan Orahood added 10 digs.

NC wins on road

Ava Heffley served seven aces for Newark Catholic in a victory at Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.

Sophie Chard-Peloquin added 10 kills, Natalie Harrington nine kills and 11 digs, Erin Keck six kills and Jillian Given 17 assists for the Green Wave (3-0, 3-0).

Josie Lynch had 14 assists, Danika Allen 13 digs and Aubrey Howell and Charlee Palmer six kills apiece for the Lancers (2-4, 0-3).

Johnstown beats Utica

Kylie Sharp and Kate Ruffle totaled 10 kills apiece for Johnstown in a victory against visiting Utica, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16, in LCL-Cardinal play.

Sydney Mason added five aces and Emily Yanczura 31 assists for the Johnnies (5-1, 2-1).

Emilee Ellis led Utica (4-4, 1-2) with seven kills and 12 assists. Hannah Shaver added seven kills, Alexa Gosnell six kills and 11 assists and Lexi Wiegand 20 digs.

Valley sweeps Watkins

Emily Bone served four aces and distributed 14 assists for Licking Valley in a victory against Watkins Memorial, 25-19, 27-25, 25-22.

Makala Bennett added 11 kills for the Panthers (3-3, 1-2).

Riley Buechner led the Warriors (1-6, 1-2) with seven kills, five aces, three blocks and 18 assists. Addie Hatzo added eight kills and three blocks and Emily Thompson 15 digs.

GIRLS TENNIS

Newark rolls

Newark dropped just one game in a 5-0 victory at Groveport in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Addi Taylert, Vanessa Bennett and Becca Helber won singles matches. Lacey Layne and Andy Hupp and Dia Bailey and Lydia Sears won doubles matches for the Wildcats (6-1, 1-1).

Granville stays hot

Granville won a pair of 3-2 matches the last two days.

The Blue Aces beat Buckeye Valley after edging Watkins Memorial on Monday. Abby Riley won at No. 2 singles against the Warriors, and Sarah Williams and Teresa Collins and Sadie Landry and Hannah Bishop won doubles matches.

BOYS SOCCER

Watkins falls

Brayden Logue scored for Watkins Memorial in a 4-1 loss to Pickerington North.

Nic Sarver made 10 saves for the Warriors (1-4).

Granville drops home match

Kale Timmons and Ian Bagent each had a goal and an assist for Granville in a 4-2 loss to visiting DeSales.

Jacob Lucas-Miller made two saves for the Blue Aces (1-1).

GIRLS GOLF

Dickson shoots 37

Olivia Dickson fired a 37 at Denison Golf Club for Utica to take medalist honors during a dual loss to Granville, 161-206.

Granville's Avery Staten was right behind with a 38, and teammates Olivia Jones added a 40, Lydia Wigal 41, Hannah Huggins 42, Ella Clarke 43 and Ceci Dodd 46. Utica's Brooklyn Fender also shot 46.
