Roundup: Sheridan boys cross country team claims ninth district title in 11 years

RIO GRANDE — It was another strong effort by Tate Ruthers and his Sheridan squad on Saturday in the Division II Southeast District meet at Rio Grande.

Ruthers finished third overall in 16:05, as the Generals scored 69 points to claim one of two district titles and their ninth in 11 seasons. Fairfield Union had 35 points to win the other.

Simon Conrad placed seventh (16:42) and John Skinner ninth (16:51) for Sheridan, while Hudson Wilson was 20th (17:46) and Henry Taylor 34th (18:11) to round out the scoring.

The top eight teams and 32 runners in the Division II boys and girls races qualified for next weekend's regional at Pickerington North, as full results are available on MileSplit.

The Sheridan girls scored 120 points and finished as one of two district runner-ups with Athens (67) and Fairfield Union (89) winning district titles.

Nora Covey finished 13th (20:59), Grace Householder 14th (21:00.2) and Sheriden Glanemann 15th (21:00.49) to pace the Generals. Jenna Stewart was 28th (21:51) and Reese Thieken 52nd (23:04) to round out the scoring.

Crooksville's Hannah Sheets and Grace Sheets qualified for the regional in the Division III girls race. Hannah placed sixth (21:38) and Grace 20th (23:04) to move on as the top six teams and 24 runners advanced to Pickerington North.

Grayson Houk led the Ceramic boys in 32nd (19:02), but was eight spots shy of advancing.

Meadowbrook, JG highlight East District qualifiers

The Meadowbrook girls placed third and John Glenn girls fourth in the Division II East District meet at Cambridge High School.

The top six teams and 24 runners in the Division II boys and girls races qualified for the regional at Pick North.

The Muskies' Ashlynn Kuklica placed second overall in 19:57 and the Colts' Karrah Singleton took sixth in 20:25 to highlight the girls finishers. West Muskingum's Ayla Mowery was 20th (21:46) and also qualified as an individual.

The Colts' other scorers were Taylor Forbes 18th (21:36), Marabelle Thornberry 19th (21:37), Grace Kackley 24th (22:06) and Kenli Norman 35th (23:12), while Brea Wilfong was 25th (22:19), Mackenzie Welch 27th (22:32), Laurie Baughman 50th (23:52) and Breonna Cosgrove 52nd (23:56) to score for the Muskies.

Morgan's Clark Smith finished ninth (17:33) in the Division II boys race to highlight area individual qualifiers, while Ridgewood's Aydan Salmon came in 14th (17:50), Cambridge's Nicholas Hatfield took 16th (17:51) and Philo's Ryan Morris was 21st (18:06).

The John Glenn boys were fourth (159) to move on as a team with Caiden Lake leading the way in 23rd (18:09), while Ethan Zell was 27th (18:31), Isaac Duran 35th (18:54), Ian Davis 39th (19:03) and Kaid Ritchey 49th (19:11).

In Division III, the top four teams and 16 runners advanced to the regional meet.

West Muskingum's Jacob Agin placed 10th in the boys race in 18:27, while the Ridgewood girls missed moving on as a team by one point with 108, but Kenzie Bice in 12th (21:08) and Alaina Swiney in 14th (21:16) advanced as individuals for the Generals.

Tri-Valley in Division I

Tri-Valley's Taylor Crozier finished 10th with a time of 19:22, as the top five teams and 20 individuals advanced from the Division I, Section 1 district race. Teammate Erin Hogue was three seconds shy of moving on, placing 21st in 20:04, as the Scotties were ninth as a team.

Girls Soccer

Division I

Delaware Hayes 8, Tri-Valley 1: The 35th-seeded Scotties trailed 5-0 at the half in falling in tournament play.
