Roundup: Newark’s Potter wins Central District title in 300 hurdles

It took a second run, but Isaiah Potter claimed his Division I district championship Saturday for the Newark boys track team.

Running solo after previously being interfered with, Potter ran a time of 39.29 in the 300 hurdles to win the District 4 championship at Granville. Potter qualified to Wednesday’s regional at Pickerington North.

Granville’s Chris Barker placed third in the 200 (22.23) as did Owen Kirkham in the 800 (1:56.68), and Eli Kretchmar placed fourth in the 1,600 (4:21.96) as did Cohen Stump in the 3,200 (9:49.70). Barker, Kirkham, Kretchmar and Lane Hannahs placed third in the 1,600 relay (3:29.40).

In the girls meet, Lillian Eckels won the 800 (2:14.85) and Zoee Lehman the 1,600 (5:06.53) for host Granville.

Ella Johnson took runner-up in the 3,200 (11:25.61) with Sophia Cotts right behind in third (11:40.40) for the Blue Aces. Placing fourth were Caitriona Sproul in the 300 hurdles (59.28), Kara Bergeron in the 800 (2:22.30) and Lehman, Sproul, Charlotte Turner and Avery Ogg in the 1,600 relay (4:02.12).

Licking Heights’ Temiloluwa Jaf-ogunlayi took runner-up in the 100 (12.41) and 200 (25.63). Teammate Addison Caudill placed fourth in the 1,600 (5:14.72) and 3,200 (11:46.45).

Fillmore wins 400

D.J. Fillmore ran a time of 48.53 to win the 400 for Licking Heights during the Division I, District 1 championships at Hilliard Darby. Fillmore qualified for Wednesday’s regional at Pickerington North.

Fillmore also took runner-up in the 200 (21.38), and he joined Jalynn Fillmore, Similoluwa Jaf-ogunlayi and Nick McDougall on the runner-up 400 relay (42.86).

Kellen Fields added a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles (39.86) and a fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (15.52) for the Hornets.

Brazier takes third

Adam Brazier ran a time of 1:56.11 in the 800 to place third for Watkins Memorial during the Division I, District 3 championships at Hilliard Darby.

Matching Brazier with third-place finishes were teammates Jaeden Ricketts in the 100 (10.93) and John Apel in the 400 (49.87). That duo also joined Joe McIntosh and Jacob Holbert on the third-place 800 relay (1:30.67).

In the girls meet, Cameryn Wheeler, Madeline Daugherty, Ellah Bigham and Lindsey Castillo placed fourth in the 1,600 relay (4:12.02) for the Warriors.

Keck takes second

Erin Keck threw a distance of 103-feet-8 to take runner-up in the discus for Newark Catholic during the Division III district championships at Granville. Keck qualified to Wednesday’s regional at Heath.

In the boys meet, Gabe Carlisle, Ryan Ricciardo, A.J. Rigley and Chris Geiger placed fourth in the 800 relay (1:34.99) for the Green Wave.

BOYS LACROSSE

Granville advances

Colt Shaw's hat trick Friday led Granville to a 10-3 victory against visiting No. 6 Dayton Chaminade-Julienne in a Division II regional quarterfinal.

Connor Smith and Nobel Terebuh added two goals apiece and Cal Schnaidt, Colin White and Beckett Long one each for the No. 3 Blue Aces (12-6), who visit No. 2 Bishop Watterson at 6 p.m. Monday. Matt Chaykowski was 14-for-16 on faceoffs, and Luc Kadlic made 16 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Granville edged at home

The best season in program history came to a heartbreaking end for Granville.

The No. 2 Blue Aces (16-2) fell 10-8 to visiting No. 5 Bexley in a Division II regional quarterfinal.

Amelia Sarap led Granville with four goals, and Kyra Studer added two goals and two assists and Gabrielle Graves two goals. Grace Lilly made three saves.
