ROUNDUP: Engineers advance to HCAC volleyball semifinals

Nov. 9—Rose-Hulman picked up a road victory Wednesday night in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball tournament, defeating host Hanover 3-1.

The Engineers won the crucial third set and prevailed by scores of 25-22, 12-25, 31-29, 25-17.

Sophia Koop had 14 kills, Allie Fults 12 and Megan Korte 11. Lily Ebright had 38 digs, the fourth-best total in school history, while Jillian Gregg had 34 assists and Fults five blocks.

The Engineers will play Transylvania in a Saturday semifinal match at Mount St. Joseph.

—Engineer men play in NCAA — At Chicago, the Rose-Hulman men's team will begin its seventh NCAA Division III tournament competition in the past 13 seasons Saturday.

The Engineers (12-5-3) will play Ohio Wesleyan (12-5-1) at 2:30 p.m. following a noon opening match between Illinois Wesleyan (6-6-5) and host University of Chicago (9-2-5).

Girls basketball

—White River Valley 60, West Vigo 29 — At Switz City, the visiting Vikings fell to 0-4 with their loss to the Wolverines on Thursday.

Izzy Avila had 16 points and Brynna Walton 15 for WRV (1-1), while Jaycee Elkins, Hannah Stepp and Delaney Marrs scored seven each for the Vikings.

West Vigo begins Western Indiana Conference play at home Tuesday against Owen Valley. The Wolverines host West Washington on Saturday.

—Northview 41, Bloomington South 35 — At Brazil, the host Knights put on a defensive clinic in a nonconference win Thursday.

Now 3-1 after sweeping the Bloomington schools for the first time, Northview will be at Parke Heritage on Tuesday. Bloomington South is 2-1.

—North Knox 38, Linton 33 — At Bicknell, the Miners got the ball back with a chance to take the lead with 23 seconds left in the game but couldn't take advantage of it Thursday.

North Knox, ranked first in Class 2A, is 4-0 and hosts Washington Catholic on Monday. Linton (1-1) hosts Edgewood on Saturday night.
