Roundup: Coldwater and Parma Western wrestling defeat Hillsdale in duals

HILLSDALE — The Hillsdale Hornet varsity wrestling team welcomed in Coldwater, Quincy and Parma Western for Wednesday night duals.

It was a tough night all around for the Hornets, losing a close dual to Coldwater 42 points to 39 and losing to Western 46 to 27.

During the Coldwater dual, Yahya Umari defeated Hornet Oliver Heckel in a 46-second pinfall at 106 pounds. Cardinal Joshua Doully (113) defeated Luke Webster of Hillsdale in a 1:38 pinfall. Umari Umari (120) defeated Hornet Devon Carver three minutes into their match by pinfall.

Hornets Colton and Ethan Wolf both received wins via forfeit. Hornet Talon Hugenall (138) earned a pin over Ruben Torres nearly four minutes into their match. Logan Bayer (144) received a forfeit win for Hillsdale. Coldwater's Tre Miller (157) won over Joshua Herring via pinfall over a minute into their match. Cardinal Yasser Nasser (175) won via pinfall over Robert Garcia.

The Hornets won their matches from 190 to 285. Stephen Petersen pinned Jack Ruden of Coldwater in 35 seconds. John Petersen defeated Raul Cecilo of Coldwater in a 10-4 decision. Gage Rosenberry of Hillsdale won a forfeit at heavyweight.

Against Western, Hornets Devon Carver (120), Ethan Wolf (132), Declan Flannery (165), Stephen Petersen (190) and John Petersen (215) won matches. Both Petersen brothers won by pinfall. Flannery also won via pinfall.

For Western, Hezekiah Gin (106), Kaden Engelter (113), Elijah Crist (126), Quinn Ferris (138), Sukhmon Singh (144), Owen St. Andre (150), Gabriel Hines (157), Joshua Corts (175) and Ronald London (285) all earned wins. London, Corts, St. Andre, Crist, Engelter and Gin all received wins via pinfall.

Coldwater would also face Quincy in a dual. The Cardinals won 45 points to 33. For Coldwater, Tre Miller (157), Gage Fuller (165), Jack Ruden (190), Raul Cecilo (215), Yahya Umari (106), Riley Graham (113), Ruben Torres (138) and Dayton Miller (150) all won their matches. Miller, Torres, Cecilo, Fuller and Miller all won via pinfall.

For Quincy, Landon Beardin (175), Zach Abeg (285), Chayse Jensen (120), Caleb Rose (126), Chad Yeakey (132) and Izayiah Rena (144) all won their matches. Jensen and Beardin both scored wins via pinfall.
