Roundup: Chillicothe Paints fall in final game of road trip

Normal CornBelters 7, Chillicothe Paints 0: The Paints dropped the final game of their brief road trip after being shut out by the CornBelters on Wednesday night.

The Paints managed just five hits in the loss, and they struck out 12 times as a team against CornBelters starter Drake Downing. Victor Figueroa led the team after going 2-for-4, while Cole Kwiatkowski, Sammy Stoner and Gavin Ganun all added on a hit. Arturo Disla collected two walks, and he was the only Paints batter to reach base by walk. Kwiatkowski also stole a base.

Nate Ginsberg got the start for the Paints, and he gave up four runs on seven hits through five innings of work. Bryson Brown pitched the next inning and two-thirds, during which he walked four batters and allowed two earned runs on two hits. Jared Adams closed the game out and gave up one run and three hits. Ginsberg, Brown and Adams all collected one strikeout apiece.

Chillicothe Post 757 splits with Yeager-Benson Post 199: Chillicothe Post 757 fell just short of a state tournament appearance after splitting a pair of games with Yeager-Benson Post 199 on Wednesday. It won the first game 9-2 but dropped the second game 14-5.

Maverick Frump powered the Colts through all seven innings in game one. The pitcher gave up just one earned run and allowed six hits while striking out five. Frump was the only pitcher the Colts needed. Yeager-Benson cycled through three pitchers by the end of the game.

Josh Jackson led Post 757 at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Ashton Crace scored twice and recorded both a hit and an RBI while also picking up a walk. Braylon Leach and DJ Crocker added a hit and two runs apiece, while Landyn Patterson and River Hayes each put up a hit and a run. Hayes also stole a base in the win, and Carter Glandon batted in a run.

Still, the Colts fell in their second game of the day. Yeager-Benson scored 12 runs between the third and sixth innings to storm ahead of the Colts. Crace started for the Colts on the mound, and he allowed six earned runs off seven hits. Isaiah Schmidt pitched an inning of relief, and he allowed three runs on three hits. Glandon closed the game out, and he allowed three runs on four hits with two walks. Crace and Glandon each recorded a strikeout.

Hayes led the Colts at the plate, and he ended the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Crace hit a double, scored a run and batted in a run, and Leach recorded a hit and a run. Crocker added two hits, Dylan Grubbs recorded a hit, and Patterson walked twice and scored a run.
