Roundup: Bronson softball beats Centreville twice, Three Rivers moves to 27-6

BRONSON — The Bronson softball team won a pair of games at home on Wednesday.

The sweep came over Centreville as the Vikings picked up 9-0 and 7-0 victories.

"We are on a good streak right now," Bronson coach Becky Gray said. "The pitching is solid and we are playing much better defense."

Ashlynn Harris struck out 17 batters in the first game, she allowed just two hits.

At the plate, both Lydia Wells and Kailynne Scare hit a home run. Collectively they had five hits and five RBIs in the game. Harris and Braelynn Gimenez each had two singles. Ciara Blankenship, Roni Bir, Mya Webb and Delanee Carpenter each had a hit.

Centreville's hits came from Abbe Wherrett and Drew Alexander.

In the second game, Bronson won as Webb and Harris combined for 10 strikeouts.

Bronson recorded seven singles and a double at the plate in this one. Bir and Carpenter had two hits each.

"I feel we have seen all kinds of pitching and are learning to be successful and make adjustments at the plate," Gray said of her team. "I feel we are prepared and ready for districts."

Centreville got hits in the second game from Wherrett (triple), LilyAnn Lutz and Elise Richardson with doubles plus a single each from Laynie Cupp and Kaylee Griggs.

Mendon beats Schoolcraft

The Mendon girls took out Schoolcraft 11-4 and 11-0 in a pair of games on Wednesday. In the first, the Hornets scored three times in the first, once in the second and four times in the third. They then added one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Ally Butler, Cienna Nightingale and Rowan Allen each logged two hits and drove in two runs. Brielle Bailey added two hits and an RBI while Jadyn Samson had a base hit and an RBI as well. Abby Butler drove in two with a hit, Brooke Gerth knocked in a run with a single and both Taya Bingaman and Gracie Schultz added a hit as well, Schultz had a triple.

Allen struck out 14 while scattering four hits.

The second contest saw Mendon score at least one run in every inning, including four in the first.

Schultz connected for a home run in this game, she hit a double as well and totaled three runs driven in. Ally Butler was credited with three RBIs. Samson and Abby Butler both had two hits, Bailey and Bingaman both had a hit and drove in two runs.

Ally Butler picked up the win, striking out seven. She allowed just two hits.

LEAGUE TITLE: Mendon softball secures SCAA league title

Three Rivers wins again

Three Rivers swept Paw Paw 10-0 and 16-5 on Wednesday to improve to 27-6 on the season. The win was the sixth in a row and 17 out of their last 18 trips to the diamond.

Jennaya Decker hit a homer and drove in three runs in the opener. Ava Forman and London Hoffmaster combined to collect five runs driven in while Allie McGlothlen totaled two hits. Decker earned the win, striking out nine.

Decker clubbed a pair of hits with three RBIs in the second game as well. Emily Ventrone, Dani Glass and Forman each had two hits in the game while Peyton Ware and McGlothlen each drove in one with a hit. Decker earned the win in this one as well.

Constantine wins a pair of games

The Constantine softball team beat River Valley twice on Tuesday, 14-2 and 18-3. Constantine had just three hits in the first game, Taryn Wolfinger and Jocelyn Butler both had one and drove in two runs. Meah Evans had a hit as well. Kaitlyn Ross earned the win with seven strikeouts. In the second game, Olivia Herlein clubbed three hits while Raeann Michalek and Ross each drove in three runs. Aubrae Good drove in two. Butler picked up the win with four strikeouts.

Springport beats Colon

The Springport softball team beat Colon twice on Wednesday, 23-16 and 14-2. Amaya Johnson logged three hits and drove in two in the first game, both Cheyanne Frame and Alyssa Hess grabbed two hits as well. Colon walked 17 times in that opener. Peighton Stouder had three total RBIs. In the second game, Frame hit a triple while Stouder and Paris Hattan both collected a hit.

Baseball

The Burr Oak baseball team picked up a win over Bellevue on Monday, 7-5. The two teams began a second game, but it ended in a 4-4 tie.

"We really played a full game tonight finally. We didn’t hurt ourselves with errors or walks tonight," Burr Oak coach Dave Brackett said. "It was really great to see the boys respond tonight after coming off our last outing."

Austin Cole had two singles, a double and drove in two runs on the night while Cohen Miller had two hits as well. Caleb Greene recorded a single, double and one run driven in. Joshua Greene had three RBIs with a double, Kayden Cole and Garrett Johnson both hit a single. Johnson earned the win, Cole picked up the save.

On Tuesday, Burr Oak dropped a 16-1 decision to Litchfield. Landen West doubled, Kayden Cole hit two singles and Joshua Greene singled in that run.

Constantine dropped a 16-6 decision to Paw Paw on Wednesday. Brody Godfrey and Gaven Lewis each drove in a pair of runs for the Falcons. On Monday, they swept Parchment with wins of 3-2 and 3-0. Caleb Bontrager and Dathan Smith each had two hits in the first game, Lewis earned the win with five strikeouts. Godfrey picked up the win in the second game with five strikeouts as well. Austin Forrester had a base hit and drove in one, Godfrey was also credited with an RBI.
