Mendon softball secures SCAA league title

MENDON - The Mendon softball team won its 30th game of the season on Tuesday.

In the victory, the Hornets beat Burr Oak 8-1. This also secured the SCAA league title for the Hornets, their second consecutive year of winning a league championship. The team secured the SouthWest10 title last season in its final year of the league.

"We've got a great group of kids, and they work hard every day," Mendon coach Steve Butler said. "They don't get down on themselves and we made an impact early in the game at the plate today."

Mendon scored five times in the opening inning of Tuesday's game. This came after Burr Oak scored in the top half of the first with a Brooklynn Root single to score Amy Ledyard. The Hornets answered when Taya Bingaman knocked in a run and then Brielle Bailey drove home two with a single.

Cienna Nightingale also hit a two-run single in the first inning, scoring Bailey and Ally Butler.

In the third, Mendon put two more runs on the board as Gracie Schultz drove in Bailey and Nightingale.

Mendon's final run came in the sixth. There, Bailey connected on a double that scored Bingaman.

Root's RBI single was the only run and hit for the Bobcats in the game. Inside the circle, she struck out four batters.

Rowan Allen pitched for Mendon, she struck out nine hitters in seven innings of work.

Bailey registered three hits, Schultz had two hits. Jadyn Samson, Kaidee Gonser and Nightingale each had one hit as well.

On Monday, Mendon swept Pittsford 23-0 and 20-0.

In the opening game, Ally Butler threw three innings and struck out five while allowing just one hit.

Gonser led the offense with two doubles, a triple and six runs driven in for the game. Bingaman drove in three runs with a pair of hits and Abby Butler had two hits with three RBIs while Bailey connected for a single, home run and five total RBIs.

Nightingale drove in two with two doubles, Allen drove in two as well while Ally Butler also had two hits.

In the second game, Samson pitched three innings with five strikeouts.

At the plate, she hit a single, double and a triple with five runs driven in. Gonser had four runs driven in as well while Nightingale registered a double and had three RBIs.

Bronson beats Brandywine

The Bronson softball team picked up a 2-1 victory over Niles-Brandywine on Monday.

Ashlynn Harris pitched the Vikes to the win, striking out 12 batters in six innings of work.

Lydia Wells and Ciara Blankenship each logged two singles for the Vikings. Brealyn Lasky and Delanee Carpenter both had a single while Braelynn Gimenez hit a double.

White Pigeon wins twice

The White Pigeon softball team beat Comstock twice on Friday.

The Lady Chiefs won the first 18-4. Leigha Shudell had a single, double and a triple with six RBIs and Emily Miller added a single, triple and two runs driven in.

Hannah Eckert collected three RBIs. Rachel Byler registered two singles, Emily Barton had one. Madi Smallwood pitched the Chiefs to the win and hit a triple as well.

Shudell blasted a home run and drove in four total runs in the second game, a 20-5 victory. Caley Raley drove in four runs with two singles and a triple while Smallwood drove in two with a base hit. Barton hit a double. Layla Abner and Mable Post each hit a single and Rachel Byler had two singles.

Post picked up the win.
