ROUNDUP: Bees, Otters win middle school titles

Sep. 27—The Honey Creek boys and Otter Creek girls won the Vigo County middle school varsity cross country championships Wednesday at LaVern Gibson Championship Course, while the Woodrow Wilson boys and West Vigo girls won junior varsity championships.

Otter Creek had both varsity individual champions, Trenton Woelfle for the boys and Addyson Bautista for the girls.

It was a 3-kilometer race for all runners.

Boys tennis—Sullivan 4, Bloomfield 1 — At Linton, Houston Ferree and the doubles team of Sam Coach and Spencer Hanks attained individual milestones as the Golden Arrows won their sectional opener Wednesday.

Ferree is now 22-1, most wins in a season at No. 1 singles, and Couch and Hanks won their 11th match at No. 2 doubles. Drew Baker, with his 15th win of the year, tied the record for No. 2 singles players.

Singles — Houston Ferree (S) def. Nolan Hughes 6-1, 6-0; Drew Baker (S) def. Will Dowden 6-2, 6-1; Levi Chickadaunce (S) def. Caleb Kerr 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5).

Doubles — Blake Neill-Quentin Ross (B) def. Carter Mischler-Jayden Scott 6-3, 4-6, 6-3; Sam Couch-Spencer Hanks (S) def. Boone Holtsclaw-Kellen Luse 6-4, 7-5.

Next — Sullivan (18-6) played Linton in the championship match Thursday.

Girls tennis

—Robinson 5, Olney 4 — At Robinson, Ill., Annie List improved to 15-1 at No. 1 singles for the Maroons in a Little Illini Conference match Wednesday.

Prep volleyball

—Linton 3, West Vigo 0 — At Linton, Ella Warrick had a long service run in the second set as Class 2A's second-ranked Miners won 25-18, 25-7, 25-11 Wednesday.

It was the 10th 3-0 win in a row for Linton.

Girls soccer

—Edgewood 1, West Vigo 0 — At Ellettsville, Lisa Krause had 12 saves in a losing cause for the Vikings in Western Indiana Conference play Wednesday.

West Vigo is now 9-8.
