Ronda Rousey to Make a Quick Return, Headlines UFC 170 Against Sara McMann

Ronda Rousey on Next Opponent: “I’m the Champ… I’m Waiting for Who Steps Up”

“(Ronda) Rousey vs. (Sara) McMann, February, that’s the headliner.”

UFC president Dana White made that announcement at the UFC 168 post-fight press conference on Saturday night, surprising many, as he doesn’t usually announce fights that quickly. And it does make for a very quick turn-around for Ronda Rousey, coming off of her third-round armbar submission of Miesha Tate on Saturday night.

The fight, of course, wasn’t a spur of the moment decision.

“Dana actually approached me about this before this fight,” said Rousey. “I’m ready to get back into it. I’m still hungry.”

Cat Zingano is still the UFC women’s bantamweight No. 1 contender, but she is still recovering from multiple knee injuries.

“Cat Zingano goes back into training in March,” added White. “Hopefully she can stay healthy and we can do that fight,” meaning the winner of Rousey vs. McMann would be the first fight back for Zingano.

Rousey vs. McMann, according to White, will headline UFC 170 on Feb. 22 in Las Vegas. A light heavyweight bout pitting Rashad Evans against Daniel Cormier was already announced for that card. That fight will remain, but it will be relegated to co-main event status.
