Robstown's Nyomi Garcia earns Top 10 finish at UIL State Cross Country meet

Robstown's Nyomi Garcia capped her high school cross country career with a state medal, finishing ninth to lead the Coastal Bend's showing at the UIL State Meet at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock.

Garcia finished the 3,200-meter course in 11:44.6 and led three runners from South Texas in the top 20.

Alice freshman Aubrey Garcia finished 16th (11:59.4) and Sinton's Izabella Ohler was 20th (12:02.1).

McMullen County's girls finished third as a team in Class 1A, paced by Isabella Billingsley's 11th place finish.

Hebbronville junior Gary Custer posted the best finish by any Coastal Bend competitor, finishing eighth in the Class 3A boys 5K. Custer crossed in 16:26.

The Port Aransas boys finished just off the medal stand, taking fourth in Class 2A. William Carlough earned an individual medal with a ninth-place finish and Shane Stawar was 12th for the Marlins.

McMullen County's Brandon Timms was the other Coastal Bend athlete to bring home some hardware, finishing 10th in the Class A boys race.

Alice's Isaac Wright closed his senior year with a 17th place finish in Class 4A boys. The Coyotes, who made their first state appearance as a team, finished 12th.

King's Diego Canto had the best finish of any Class 5A competitor, crossing in 32nd place with a time of 16:11.7. Canto's teammate Jackson Lovvorn, who finished second at the Region IV-5A meet, was injured during the race and was unable to finish.
