RJ Davis named a finalist for Naismith Player of the Year

RJ Davis has put together one heck of a senior season at North Carolina.

The point guard won the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year award and is now one of four finalists for the Naismith Player of the Year. The four finalists were announced on Tuesday morning ahead of the Sweet 16 with Davis, Zach Edey (Purdue), Dalton Knecht (Tennessee), and Jamal Shead (Houston) all making the list.

All four finalists have helped lead their team to the Sweet 16 and three of the four are No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament.

Davis averaged 21.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 43.6 percent from the field. That included averaging 21.4 points per game in the ACC. Davis made 113 3-point field goals in the regular season and ACC Tournament, setting the UNC program record.

With his performance this season, Davis earned consensus first-team All-America honors and will be honored in the Dean Dome rafters after this year.

The 2024 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Men’s Player of the Year announcement will occur on Sunday, April 7, at the Naismith Awards Brunch during the Final Four in Phoenix. The event will be held at the Phoenix Art Museum
