Retired OFR firefighter publishes book on Odessa fire history
Jun. 6—Get your copy of the Odessa Fire Department History book that covers 1927 to 2011. The 533-page book is available in hardcover for $71.35 and paperback for $63.60.
The book was created by retired OFR firefighter John Taylor and covers the beginning of the department with volunteer firefighters from 1927 to 1939. In 1939 the first paid firefighters began working alongside volunteer firefighters until 1945. In 1945 Odessa Fire Department became a full-time paid department. The book follows the Odessa firefighters to March 31, 2011. The book contains newspaper articles and photos.
