Report: Tobias Harris turned down $80 million extension with Clippers
It looks like Los Angeles Clippers forward Tobias Harris to going to test his luck on the free-agent market. Harris reportedly turned down an $80 million extension to remain with the Clippers, according to David Aldridge.
Why did Tobias Harris turn down $80 million from the Clippers?
While Harris turned down a significant amount of money, the 26-year-old likely wants to see what he can get on the market. According to Aldridge, Harris would be eligible for a five-year, $188 million max contract from the Clippers if he plays out the season and becomes an unrestricted free-agent. Another club could pick him up for four-year and $145.5 million in that scenario.

That’s not a guarantee. Harris averaged 18.6 points and 5.5 rebounds between the Detroit Pistons and Clippers last season. He was slightly more productive after joining the Clippers, and is betting on himself to improve next year.
Could the Clippers still find a way to sign Tobias Harris?
Though it looks like Harris wants to test free agency, Aldridge says the two sides had “amicable discussions.” There’s no hard feelings over Harris declining the deal now, so perhaps there’s a possibility the two sides will continue to negotiate before he hits the market.
