NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor reportedly was stabbed in the chest and shoulder at a Pittsburgh-area apartment around 4:30 a.m. ET Saturday morning, as first reported by WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh and later by ESPN.

Pryor, 30, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for emergency care. After being listed in critical condition, it appears he has made notable progress and was upgraded to stable condition.

But Pittsburgh Police charged Pryor and a 24-year-old woman named Shalaya Briston in the incident. Pryor has been charged with simple assault and Briston was charged with criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault.

The police report indicates that the Violent Crimes unit determined Pryor and Briston were believed to be the “mutual combatants in this incident.” Pryor’s stabbing injuries were suffered during a dispute inside an apartment on the 200 block of Heinz Street on the city’s North Side. Briston also received injuries in the incident.

The free agent Pryor has played eight seasons in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars before being released earlier this season and has not appeared in an NFL game this season.
