Report: Nets’ Ben Simmons is ‘healthiest he’s been since his last year in Philly’

The Brooklyn Nets have been through a lot ever since they brought Ben Simmons to Brooklyn to help Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving win a title after James Harden wanted out. Despite things not going as planned after trading for Simmons, the Nets and its fanbase have some good news regarding Simmons’ health.

On Wednesday, Marc J. Spears reported on ESPN’s NBA Today show that he spoke to someone close to Simmons who would describe his recovery from the nerve impingement in his back as nearing the end. Simmons, 27, played just 42 games during the 2022-23 season due to a variety of injuries including the nerve impingement that prematurely ended his season in March.

One important thing that Spears pointed out was that the person close to Simmons said that the former LSU Tiger is the healthiest he has been since his last season as a Philadelphia 76er. Simmons did not play during the 2021-22 season as he began the campaign by holding out until Philadelphia traded him to Brooklyn where he ended up having back surgery. Here’s more of what the person close to Simmons had to say to Spears:

“Brooklyn has been incredibly supportive and the plan is for him to be the Nets’ point guard and primary ball-handler this upcoming season. The expectation is he will fully resume his career at the level he has prior to leaving Philadelphia.”
