Report: Frankie Luvu not expected to miss time with hip injury

The Carolina Panthers—as well as their fans and their defense—may be able to breathe a sigh of relief on at least one of their Week 3 injuries.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic (and to teammate Kamu Grugier-Hill), linebacker Frankie Luvu is not expected to miss time due to his hip injury. The sixth-year defender left Sunday’s 37-27 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks after sustaining what was listed as a hip pointer.

Luvu had played through 38 defensive snaps before his exit. He totaled four tackles, one of which registered for a loss.

The Panthers are already missing one of their starting middle linebackers in Shaq Thompson, who broke his fibula in the team’s Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Thompson underwent surgery last week and is likely to miss the remainder of his ninth pro campaign.

As for the second half of Person’s tweet, safety Xavier Woods may not be as lucky as Luvu. Woods, as reported by ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, could miss four to six weeks due to his hamstring injury.
