Report: Former Bills QB Davis Webb considering coaching options

A potential player on the radar of Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott could be one that’s actually… a coach.

Davis Webb, formerly of the Bills and backup for the New York Giants in 2022, is considering a move from player to coach next year according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sound familiar?

Webb, 28, left Buffalo last offseason and followed Giants head coach Brian Daboll to New York. Daboll was previously the Bills’ offensive coordinator and during his time in Buffalo, Webb was thought of as part backup, part “coach” behind Josh Allen.

Last offseason, the Bills were reportedly looking to make this transition with him… but Webb had aspirations to keep playing. He did so with the Giants and made his first-career start late this past season.

With that under his belt, Davis is evidently now interested in a coaching position.

It remains to be seen where that could be. Naturally, the Bills and Giants are likely his top-two landing spots.

In terms of Buffalo, it could be the more appealing option.

Currently Joe Brady is the Bills’ quarterbacks coach. However, Brady has had interest from other teams. The Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets both reportedly reached out about their vacant offensive coordinator roles.

The Jets ended up hiring Nate Hackett for the job and the Chargers are still there, regardless, there is interest.

That could mean Webb might only need to wait a year or two as an assistant quarterbacks coach in Buffalo before getting the head QB coach position.

Regardless, Webb’s name could be one to watch in terms of an addition to McDermott’s staff.
