Report: Cade Cunningham only expected to visit Pistons before draft

Potential No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham will reportedly only visit with the Detroit Pistons prior to the NBA draft after the organization was awarded the top selection on Tuesday night in the lottery, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Pistons, who finished with one of the three worst records in the NBA, won their first No. 1 overall pick since 1970 when the organization selected Hall of Famer Bob Lanier. They are expected to select Cunningham with the pick.

Cunningham, who will turn 20 in September, averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 27 games with Oklahoma State. He became the first player in program history to be named to the Associated Press All-American First Team.

Of course, he projects to have the talent necessary to be a franchise-changing type of player given his scoring ability and overall feel for the game. He has been commended as a high-character prospect eager to get to work at the next level.

Meanwhile, Pistons general manager Troy Weaver said afterward that the organization is ecstatic to win the pick. The team is expected to go through a thorough interview process with the top prospects, but it is hard to believe Cunningham will not be the choice.

The NBA draft is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 29.
