Report: Bears will start Chase Daniel, sit Mitch Trubisky on Sunday
Mitch Trubisky practiced on Wednesday, but the Chicago Bears appear to want their recovering quarterback to sit one more game.
According to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, the Bears will start backup quarterback Chase Daniel on Sunday.
Despite #Bears QB Mitch Trubisky (shoulder) returning to practice yesterday, the team is planning for him to sit this week in favor of Chase Daniel once again, sources say. No surprise, given Matt Nagy’s comments. Trubisky could play right now but team wants to play it safe.

Trubisky is still recovering from a bruised shoulder he sustained during the Bears’ Week 11 win over the Minnesota Vikings. He didn’t suit up for Week 12’s Thanksgiving Day win against the Detroit Lions — instead, Daniel took the start, his first since 2014.
As Garafolo tweeted, Trubisky seems to be fine, especially with him returning to limited practice on Wednesday. But coach Matt Nagy obviously wants to be careful with his quarterback, even with the Bears at the top of the NFC North at 8-3. Daniel was serviceable against the Lions, as the Bears defense did its job.
Daniel will get his fourth start ever on Sunday against the New York Giants — and it’s the first time he’s started more than one game in a single season. The Bears are putting a lot on his shoulders, especially since the team is currently playing its way into a playoff berth. But considering that Daniel and the Bears are facing Eli Manning and the flailing, borderline-laughable Giants on Sunday, maybe it’s not as much as you’d think.
