Report: Baylor's Rhule withdraws from Colts' coaching search

Matt Rhule intends to remain head coach at Baylor, rebuffing "serious interest" from the Indianapolis Colts, who interviewed the first-year Bears coach last week.

Rhule and Matt Nagy, former offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs, declined further negotiations with the Colts, NFL Network reported. Nagy interviewed with general manager Chris Ballard on Sunday after first meeting with the Chicago Bears.

NFL Network also reported Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks would not interview with the Colts as originally scheduled.

Nagy left his interview with Ballard to re-engage management with the Bears and he became head coach of the franchise two days later.

The Colts pursued Rhule, who coached at Temple before going to Baylor last season, as a potential replacement for Chuck Pagano. Pagano was fired at the end of the 2017 season.

Baylor was 1-11 last season but Rhule has put together a recruiting class in the top 25 according to 24/7 Sports.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard and Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel are known remaining candidates for the job who have interviewed with Ballard.
