I remember life before Title IX. Caitlin Clark exemplifies its success.

With all the hype and excitement about what Caitlin Clark's arrival in Indy will do for the Fever and women's sports, my heart soars for a different reason.

As a child of the 1950s, I remember the ugly blue one-piece suits we had to wear during gym class. Classes consisted of volleyball, dancing and other “appropriate” activities for young ladies.

Clark has brought me different feelings of pride from all her success. Change moves slowly, and even when Title IX was passed, women were a long way from equal opportunities in sports and life.

Caitlin's magnificent talent in basketball is a small part of what she has done for the young women of today. Her hard work, dedication, intelligence, eloquence, honesty and charming manner is going a lot further to gain respect for women beyond basketball.

She demonstrates everyday what Title IX was supposed to deliver, and translates into hundreds more opportunities in every field for young women today.

KJ Adcock lives in Plainfield.
