Redskins Want Doctson Healthy; Pryor Says Dominant Season Starts Against Oakland

According to Washington Redskins Head Coach Jay Gruden, the staff wants to see more of Josh Doctson and want him to contribute, but they want him 100% healthy before they put him on the field for playing time. In his rookie year, Doctson had two receptions for 66 yards on 7 targets.

On Monday, Gruden mentioned that he wanted to expand Doctson’s role but doesn’t want to rush him either. Doctson played in 20 snaps in week 1 in the Redskins’ 30 – 17 loss to the Eagles.

The Redskins released the quote that Gruden stated when asked about Doctson:

“The more he practices, the more he’s going to get a chance to play. Last week, we didn’t get a lot of opportunity balls to the wide receivers. Terrelle Pryor Sr. made a couple plays. Ryan Grant made a big one at the end of the game. Jamison Crowder made a few. Their day will come. Just a matter of what defenses we’re playing, how we’re going to attack.”

Gruden also went on to say that the receivers, including Doctson, would get their time but it would all depend on the defense they’re playing.

Pryor stated to The Athletic on Wednesday that he was going to have a “dominant season” and it all starts against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday night. If you don’t remember, Pryor was drafted by the Raiders to be their future leader as the quarterback but things obviously did not work out for Pryor in Oakland.

After starting in just 15 games for the Raiders as their quarterback, Pryor was released and spent a year crafting another brand of play style that would make him become a receiver.

In 2015 Pryor was signed by the Cleveland Browns where he played in 19 games gathering 4 touchdowns, 78 receptions for 1,049 total yards. His longest reception in 2015 was for 42 yards while his longest reception in 2016 was 54 yards. Although it seemed as if Pryor was finding his groove with the Browns, the front office felt the signing wasn’t working out so they released him after the season was over.

Not long after being released by Cleveland, Pryor and the Redskins announced that he would be signing a 1-year deal worth $6 million. Through the first two games this season for the Redskins, Pryor has yet to show up – with only 8 catches for 97 yards.
