Red Wings home opener postponed for a third straight day: What to know

Manager Matt LeCroy and the Red Wings will have to wait a day for the home opener.

For the third consecutive day, the Rochester Red Wings have been forced to postpone their home opener at Innovative Field because of the atrocious weather that has overtaken western New York this week.

This is the danger in trying to play baseball games in the Northeast so early in the baseball season, but when Triple-A expanded to 150 games three years ago, it meant the season would have to start a little earlier.

This situation is not unprecedented for the Red Wings. In 2018, they had to postpone their home opener for three straight days. Last year, they had to postpone only one home game because of inclement weather, that on June 14.

The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday games will all be rescheduled for a later date and now the Wings and Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs will attempt to play Friday at 6:05.

What happens to tickets for the Red Wings home opener?

Fans can exchange their tickets from postponed games for any future home game during the 2024 regular season. Tickets must be exchanged in person at the Innovative Field Ticket Office.

Rochester opened it season last weekend in Syracuse and won two of three games. It lost the opener, then won 6-2 on Saturday and 7-2 on Sunday.
