Recruiting News: Texas A&M lands in 2023 running back Cedric Baxter Jr.’s top five schools

The late April recruiting news has been expedient, to say the least, and for Texas A&M, the news just keeps getting better and better as players in the 2023 class begin to trim down the list of their final schools, with prime running back target Cedric Baxter Jr. placing the Aggies in his top five final schools, being recruited by Texas A&M running backs coach, Tommie Robinson.

Baxter has been extremely productive in his high school career, averaging over 8 yards per carry, and compiling 1,718 total yards and 26 touchdowns during his junior season.

The Aggies are among good company in Baxter’s “Top 5”.

Cedric Baxter Jr. has the chance to develop into an every-down back at the next level, standing at an impressive 6’1″ 215 lbs, with the potential to add more weight down the line. From a skillset standpoint, he isn’t afraid of contact and isn’t just your average downhill runner while possessing some cutting ability, and could develop as a consistent pass-catching option out of the backfield, which is vital if a future in the NFL is on the horizon.

Overall, acquiring Cedric Baxter Jr. would be a huge relief for the A&M staff, as the future of the roster at the running back position is somewhat unknown in regards to the current popularity of the transfer portal, and the future of Devon Achane’s NFL decision after the 2022 season concludes. Either way, they will be competing with the likes of Florida, Texas, Arkansas, and Miami, but with the recent success on the recruiting trail, never count the Aggies out.
