Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig LIVE! Champions League result, match stream, latest updates today

Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig LIVE!

The 14-time Champions League winners welcome their German counterparts to Santiago Bernabeu this evening looking to get the job done and reach the quarter-finals. Real Madrid hold a slender 1-0 lead on aggregate thanks to Brahim Diaz’s fine strike in the first leg.

Jude Bellingham may be suspended for domestic games but is available tonight, having missed the first leg last month due to injury, in a huge boost for Carlo Ancelotti after watching his side pushed all the way in Leipzig last month. The last time Los Blancos failed to advance after winning the first leg was five years ago against Ajax.

Leipzig are ready to give it their best shot, though, having rested a number of players at the weekend to be in prime shape for this second-leg showdown. Will they shock the Bernabeu? They impressed in the first leg and, well, stranger things have happened. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog.

21:48 , Alex Young

21:46 , Alex Young

87min: Madrid trying to control the pace of the game in these final minutes, slowing things down as Leipzig look to pounce on the counter.

21:41 , Alex Young

83min: Corner for Leipzig which Orban gets his head on... but it’s all wrong as the header bounces down and wide.

21:39 , Alex Young

81min: Into the final 10 minutes. Leipzig need a goal.

21:38 , Alex Young

80min: Henrichs with another fierce drive, but it’s down Lunin’s throat. An easy save.

21:36 , Alex Young

78min: Changes. Poulson is on for Openda as Modric replaces Kroos.

21:35 , Alex Young

77min: If this Leipzig team had any composure, Madrid would be heading out.

21:33 , Alex Young

75min: Kroos into the book, he had that coming.

21:32 , Alex Young

73min: Deary me, Openda is unmarked at the back post but heads the ball straight at Carvajal.

21:31 , Alex Young

72min: Leipzig are pumped up, they sense a second.

GOAL!

21:26 , Alex Young

68min: Hold up! Leipzig are straight back in it as Orban heads home inside the area!

GOAL!

21:24 , Alex Young

66min: A huge, huge goal and this one may have killed the tie!

Bellingham breaks over the halfway line, runs a full 40 yards before slipping in Vini Jr for a devastating finish inside the near post.

21:22 , Alex Young

64min: The corner comes in but Leipzig clear.

21:21 , Alex Young

63min: Now Rodrygo tests the keeper with a snapshot inside the area. He wins a corner...

21:21 , Alex Young

62min: Better from Madrid! Vini Jr flies down the left flank and finds Valverde inside the area, who lays the ball off to Bellingham, but his shot is blocked.

There was a foul in somewhere and the referee blows up.

21:18 , Alex Young

60min: Xavi floats the ball in for Openda but the striker gets underneath it and heads well over the bar.

21:17 , Alex Young

59min: Olmo wins another free-kick after a Kroos foul. Perhaps lucky not to be booked, the Madrid man.

21:15 , Alex Young

56min: Another Leipzig chance! This time Henrichs goes to smash the ball into the area hoping for a fortunate flick from a team-mate.

21:11 , Alex Young

52min: Uh oh. Raum brings Rodrygo down and gets a booking for his troubles.

That could be important. Rodrygo has been lively.

21:10 , Alex Young

50min: Olmo now has an opportunity from the edge of the area, but his free kick hits the wall.

21:08 , Alex Young

48min: Another huge opportunity as Lunin is caught in no man’s land and Openda rounds the keeper and has the goal gaping... but when cutting back inside, he allows the keeper to smother the ball.

Deary me.

Second half!

21:03 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway.

21:03 , Alex Young

Sounds like Madrid will be making changes. Rodrygo is on for Camavinga.

20:59 , Alex Young

Any changes at the break? Marco Rose will be delighted with his team but Carlo Ancelotti likely won’t be. At all.

20:54 , Alex Young

The Germans have been the better side, and probably should be level on aggregate.Madrid need to wake up. Greeted with whistles at the break.

Half-time!

20:48 , Alex Young

47min: That was a struggle for Madrid. This one is far from over.

20:47 , Alex Young

45min: One minute added on.

20:44 , Alex Young

42min: Openda flashes a shot wide after the corner drops to him! Looked closer than replays suggest, but he’s got to be frustrated at not hitting the target.

20:43 , Alex Young

41min: Superb effort from Simons on the corner of the area, which forces Lunin into the game’s first save.

Leipzig win a corner.

20:40 , Alex Young

37min: Bellingham looks like the only Madrid player able to make anything happen at the moment. Madrid look a bit out of ideas, oddly.

20:35 , Alex Young

34min: Another half-chance goes begging for Madrid as Vini Jr puts too much spice on his pass into the final third.

20:33 , Alex Young

30min: Valverde tries to make something happen for Madrid but there’s just no one in the area. Madrid not quite at the races yet.

20:30 , Alex Young

27min: This is better from Madrid as Vini Jr slaloms through a few defenders before being blocked.

20:28 , Alex Young

24min: Leipzig again let down by poor decision-making as Henrichs’ pass is easily cut out on the edge of the area.

20:23 , Alex Young

20min: Schalger into the book early doors, and it’s deserved for a rough tackle on Vini Jr.

20:17 , Alex Young

16min: Leipzig are racking up the chances but, much like the first half, just cannot hit the target. Openda the latest one guilty.

20:14 , Alex Young

14min: Simons looks to break through the Madrid defence as he runs at goal, he manages to squeeze out a shot - that flies a good five yards wide - as Olmo screams for the ball.

20:13 , Alex Young

12min: Up the other end, Vini Jr miscontrols the ball and it goes out of play, but he’s screaming that he was fouled. Referee not having it.

20:11 , Alex Young

10min: Oh, Sesko! You are a very lucky man that the offside flag goes up!

He runs through on goal and has two players begging for the ball inside the area, but goes alone. It would have been an open goal for either team-mate... but it was offside anyway.

20:10 , Alex Young

8min: The game is largely being played in Madrid’s half so far, but the home defence is handling the task well so far.

20:06 , Alex Young

4min: Leipzig seeing plenty of the ball, Sesko particularly lively.

Also, the pitch looks a bit off. Lots of players slipping.

20:03 , Alex Young

2min: A lively start from Leipzig, who appear ready to take the game to Madrid like they did in the first leg.

Kick-off!

20:01 , Alex Young

Ancelotti latest

19:26 , Alex Young

The build-up to tonight’s game has been overshadowed by Spanish state prosecutors calling for Carlo Ancelotti to spend four years and nine months in prison on allegations of tax fraud.

The Italian, 64, is accused of using shell companies to hide parts of his income during his first spell as Los Blancos coach, when he managed the team between 2013 and 2015.

On Wednesday, prosecutors filed their claim of two accounts of tax fraud over a sum worth €1,062,079 (£907,573).

Despite stating his residency status for tax purposes as being in Madrid during his first stint as manager, Ancelotti is accused of having failed to declare income on image rights worth £330,259 in the year of 2014 and a further £577,615 in 2015.

Prediction

18:14 , Alex Young

Real Madrid rode their luck in the first leg and that will be on their minds despite Leipzig’s inconsistent form otherwise in 2024.

Carlo Ancelotti also has his squad in far better shape than three weeks ago, so this should be a fairly routine win on aggregate.

Real Madrid in to win, 3-0 agg.

RB Leipzig team news

17:59 , Alex Young

RB Leipzig will have to make do without the suspended defender Mohamed Simakan but midfielder Xaver Schlager has served a ban of his own to be available.

Lois Openda should get the nod ahead of Christoph Baumgartner up front.

Real Madrid team news

17:44 , Alex Young

Jude Bellingham missed the first leg and will start the second, though is one yellow card away from a ban, along with Eduardo Camavinga.

David Alaba, Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao are long-term absentees, otherwise Real Madrid have a clean bill of health.

Nacho is available and has a chance to start.
