Reactions: CBS halftime analysts drowned out by Walker Hayes concert
CBS halftime analysts Phil Simms, James Brown, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson and Boomer Esiason might have had insightful things to say about the Chiefs, Bengals and the AFC Championship win in Kansas City, but they were drowned out by a halftime concert by Walker Hayes at Arrowhead Stadium.
"I have no idea what you just said - I can't hear a thing," Esiason - the Bengals' quarterback when they last played in the AFC title game in Jan. 1989 - said as he laughed.
Social media reactions:
Yikes, don’t think CBS realized how disruptive the Walker Hayes halftime show would be during *their* halftime show. Can’t heard a word.
More importantly: Forcing sports fans to hear MORE of the Applebee’s song should be penalized with a loss & elimination, Chiefs.— Sarah Spain (@SarahSpain) January 30, 2022
I guess they thought Walker Hayes would provide a nice background track for the CBS halftime show crew. What a mess..

I would pay money to see what’s happening in the @CBSSports booth while this halftime show performance from @walkerhayes is running wild over their audio. Can’t hear a thing. Lol #BengalsvsChiefs #chaos

The CBS halftime show at Arrowhead would have been the perfect place to let some f-bombs rip. Total deniability. No one would hear it!

Not sure I've ever heard a halftime of such a huge broadcast with this kind of issue of getting totally drown out by the musical act. Oof.

CBS, you kidding me with this halftime?
Lol— Ralph D. Russo (@ralphDrussoAP) January 30, 2022
It’s truly amazing those guys were able to talk uninterrupted with that sound in their ears. I can’t imagine how distracting it was. Boomer was the only one who even acknowledged it.

what do we think is the most interesting comment made during the halftime show we couldn’t hear?

Before the game, Esiason and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow laughed about a Burrow pass during pregame warm-ups that almost hit the former Cincinnati QB.
