Raiders, Panthers request interviews with Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds
INDIANAPOLIS — The Las Vegas Raiders have requested permission to interview Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds, a source confirmed to IndyStar Monday, and the Carolina Panthers announced late Monday that they had also requested permission to interview Dodds.
Dodds has long been seen as a potential general manager candidate, and he’s been interviewed by six teams over the past three years for open general manager jobs.
The Indianapolis assistant general manager, who has served as Chris Ballard’s right-hand man since Ballard took over the Colts in 2017, has withdrawn his name from three of those searches after initial interest.
Dodds outlined his philosophy on finding the right fit during training camp last year.
“Be patient,” Dodds said. “When you rush in, you’re not going to make a good decision.”
Dodds has been a Raiders candidate before, interviewing with Las Vegas in 2022, when the Raiders hired Dave Ziegler to pair him with then-Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels.
But Las Vegas also has a strong in-house candidate, Champ Kelly, who has been serving as the team’s interim general manager, and the Raiders may not be the only team interested in Dodds this offseason.
Carolina is looking for a new general manager after firing Scott Fitterer on Monday.
The Commanders and Chargers also have general manager openings, and Dodds may not be the only Colts front office member teams want to interview. Chief personnel executive Morocco Brown interviewed with at least two teams for general manager positions last year.
