Quincy baseball falls in championship of Al Glick invitational

JACKSON – The Quincy Oriole varsity baseball team made it to the finals of the annual Al Glick Invitational on Saturday before falling to state ranked Jackson Lumen Christi by the score of 11-2.

Before playing the Titans in the finale, Quincy took down Jackson High School 5-4.

Quincy led 3-1 after two innings and extended that lead to 4-2 in the fifth. Jackson scored a run in the sixth and in the seventh to make things interesting, however a run scored in the bottom of the sixth for Quincy proved to be the difference as the Orioles won 5-4, despite Jackson out hitting Quincy 8-5.

Brennan Allman notched the win on the mound after throwing four and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Mason Graves secured the save on the mound after throwing two innings and a third, while allowing four hits and two runs with three strikeouts.

Mickey Connin led the Quincy offense, finishing 2-for-2 with a single and a double with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Ethan Copas also had a multi-hit game, recording two singles with a run scored.

Also adding to the Quincy effort was Jimmy Maynard with a single and an RBI while Graves and Alex Barry added RBIs.

After a scheduling conflict led to some confusion, the Orioles finally advanced to the tournament finals to face off with state ranked Lumen Christi, a matchup the Titans would take by the score of 11-2.

Quincy led the game 2-1 heading into the fifth inning, but Lumen Christi scored 10 unanswered runs to put the win and the championship away via the 11-2 win.

Maynard took the loss on the mound for Quincy after throwing two innings and a third in relief, allowing four hits and five runs, two earned, with three walks.

Mickey Connin again led the Quincy offense, finishing 2-for-3 with a single and a double with one RBI.

Also adding to the Quincy offensive effort was Maynard with a single; Alex Dunn and Allman with a run scored; Christian Craven with a single; and Grand Holroyd with a single.

Quincy has a busy week of baseball ahead of them, including a road contest versus Maple Valley and a home matchup versus Union City.
