Quarino headlines boys basketball all-state selections

Apr. 17—The New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) announced its 2023-24 boys basketball All-State teams for classes B, C and D on Wednesday with the local ranks well-represented across the board.

South Kortright's Connor Quarino earned his third straight Class D First Team nod after helping the Rams win a third consecutive Section IV championship.

Tiger Ross of Morris was named to the Third Team while the Charlotte Valley duo of Trevor Waid and Ezra Ontl earned spots on the Fourth and Fifth teams, respectively. Milford's Christian Lawson was named to the Sixth Team.

Earning Honorable Mention nods in Class D were South Kortright's Darren Dengler, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton's Devon Hartwell, Edmeston's Gavin McEnroe, Milford's Braden Murphy and Schenevus' Jackson Reed.

In Class C, Angelo Krzyston of Delhi was named to the Fourth Team while teammates Chuck Haight and Ivan Richardson were both Honorable Mention selections.

Cooperstown's Charlie Lambert earned a Seventh Team nod while James Hogroian of Bainbridge-Guilford was named to the Eighth Team.

Receiving Honorable Mention recognition were Dylan Hosford of Richfield Springs and Xander Johnson of Unatego/Franklin.

Oneonta's Brady Carr and Britten Zeh were both named All-State in Class B, with Carr being named to the Seventh Team and Zeh earning a spot on the 13th Team.

Sidney's Connor van der Sommen was named an Honorable Mention.

TRACK & FIELD

Delhi was the site of Wednesday's Midstate Athletic Conference track and field meet featuring the Bulldogs, Bainbridge-Guilford, Oxford and Deposit-Hancock.

B-G won the girls meet with 123 points while Oxford came in first on the boys side with 106 points.

Earning individual wins for the Lady Bobcats were Makayla McCloud (100), Ethne Degan (800), Lalaenia Baldwin (3000) and Olivia Nichols (high jump).

Meghan Hadley was a triple winner for Delhi, placing first in the 200, 400 and triple jump. Gretel Hilson-Schneider added victories in the 400 hurdles and 1500.

Other winners for the Delhi girls included Addison Albright (100 hurdles), Abi Tessier (pole vault) and Brinley Wager (shot put).

Three Oxford boys earned two victories apiece: Keegan Waltz in the 400 and long jump, Gordon Smith in the 800 and 1600 and Anthony Bourn in the 3200 and 400 hurdles.

Collin Dicks nabbed a pair of wins for B-G in the 100 and triple jump while teammate Kevin Lang won the 200.

For Delhi, Eric Blackman finished first in the pole vault while Matero Riera won the shot put.

CV-S/SS dominates at home

Cherry Valley-Springfield/Sharon Springs hosted a tri-meet on Wednesday that also featured Richfield Springs and Stamford/Jefferson. CV-S/SS won both the girls and boys meets handily.

Jossy Rathbun was a triple winner on the girls side, taking first in the 100, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles.

Joining her on the podium were teammates Evelyn Gallup (200), Julissa Dixon (shot put) and Morgan Huff (discus).

For Richfield Springs, Danica Farley won both the 800 and 1500 while Rylie Chenel was the winner in the long jump. Stamford/Jefferson's Lola Shareski won the 400 to round out the girls meet.

On the boys side, Aiden Bosc led CV-S/SS with victories in the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles and discus.

Mason Kutinsky was a double winner in the 100 and 200 while CV-S/SS also received firsts from Ethan All (1600), Tyler Lyon (800), Thomas Tissiere (3200) and Kody Newell (shot put).

Liam Seeley won the 400 for Stamford/Jefferson while Bryan Webb was the winner in the long jump for Richfield Springs.

On Tuesday, Oneonta swept Chenango Valley in a dual meet with the girls winning 100-40 and the boys winning 83.5-57.5.

Leading the OHS girls with a pair of individual victories were Claire Seguin and Audrina Scheller. Seguin won the 100 and 200 meter runs while Scheller was first in the 800 and 1500.

Other Oneonta winners included Thalia Wellman (400), Jaelyn Privitera (400 hurdles), Clare Churchill (3000) and Keiyra Morton (triple jump).

On the boys side, Beckett Holmes won the 110 hurdles and triple jump while James Erickson finished first in the 200 and 400.

Darren Rose won the long jump while Logan Temming was first in the pole vault.

Oneonta will be in Sidney on Saturday for the Quinney Invitational.
